Overview

Atra Mixta is a primary heroine and key supporting character in the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. Originally a young orphan working at a grocery store in the Martian autonomous region of Chryse, she regularly transported food supplies to the youth soldiers of Chryse Guard Security. When the boys establish the mercenary group Tekkadan and embark on a dangerous mission to Earth, she joins their expedition as their primary cook, acting as a supportive and comforting presence who looks after the crew's daily life.

Appearance

Early in the story, she is depicted as a young girl with short hair, wearing a loose-fitting white shirt beneath a brown vest, accented by a red choker around her neck that leaves her collarbone visible. In certain scenes involving physical labor or space operations, she wears a spacesuit. She is also shown wearing a sports bra. Years later in the story's epilogue, her physical height has increased and her hair has grown significantly longer.

Personality

Atra is gentle, cheerful, and deeply caring toward those around her. She strives to act as a warm, motherly caretaker to the members of Tekkadan, though she feels slight disappointment when they view her merely as a peer or older sister. Despite her soft nature, she possesses extraordinary mental fortitude and a selfless spirit, enduring severe torture without hesitation to protect her friends. She is also one of the very few people who truly understands the taciturn personality of Mikazuki Augus.

Abilities

Through her work at the grocery store, Atra gained functional skills in delivering and managing food supplies. Having received basic education from the store's owner, she possesses general reading and writing literacy. After joining Tekkadan, she serves as their primary cook, taking charge of meal preparation and food inventory to maintain the physical well-being and daily sustenance of the entire group.

Background

Orphaned at a young age, Atra was initially forced to work as an errand girl in a red-light district, where she suffered mistreatment. After fleeing those conditions, she collapsed from starvation but was rescued by Mikazuki Augus. She was subsequently taken in by Haba, a local grocery store owner, and established close ties with the CGS boys. When Tekkadan embarked on their voyage to Earth, Atra volunteered as their cook. Over the course of their journeys, she grew closer to Mikazuki and eventually conceived his child. Before Tekkadan's final stand, she was persuaded to evacuate to safety, where she gave birth to and raised their son, Akatsuki.

Relationships

Atra harbors a deep, enduring affection for Mikazuki Augus ever since he saved her childhood life, giving him a matching handmade bracelet as a protective charm and eventually giving birth to their son, Akatsuki. Although she initially viewed Kudelia Aina Bernstein as a romantic rival, their relationship evolved into profound friendship, demonstrated when Atra voluntarily endured torture to protect Kudelia. Following the war, the two live together and co-parent Akatsuki. Additionally, her views on relationships were strongly influenced by Naze Turbine and Amida Arca.

Trivia

In the post-war epilogue, her close bond with Kudelia Aina Bernstein is reflected in her composite surname, Augus-Mixta-Bernstein. Furthermore, her son Akatsuki inherits his physical facial features and hand size from his late father Mikazuki Augus, while his hair color and the shape of his eyes directly resemble those of Atra.
