Blitz Gundam

The GAT-X207 Blitz Gundam is a prototype mobile suit featured in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. Developed covertly by the Atlantic Federation with technical assistance from the Morgenroete corporation, it is the third unit of the initial GAT-X series, tailored for high-speed infiltration and close-quarters combat. After being hijacked at Heliopolis, it served as the personal unit for ZAFT pilot Nicol Amalfi.

Overview

The GAT-X207 Blitz Gundam is a prototype mobile suit featured in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. Developed covertly by the Atlantic Federation with technical assistance from the Morgenroete corporation, it is the third unit of the initial GAT-X series, tailored for high-speed infiltration and close-quarters combat. After being hijacked at Heliopolis, it served as the personal unit for ZAFT pilot Nicol Amalfi.

Appearance

The unit features a predominantly black Phase Shift armor finish paired with blue eyes, a head-mounted V-fin, and claws on its hands. Large cover panels are installed over the thrusters on its back to mitigate thermal detection. Mounted on its right arm is the composite shield system, while a wire-guided rocket anchor is equipped on its left arm.

Abilities

The unit incorporates the Mirage Colloid stealth system, using magnetically held particles to render itself invisible to optical sensors and radar. Due to high power demands, it cannot run concurrently with Phase Shift armor, and it remains vulnerable to thermal tracking or detection via displaced particles. Its right-arm composite shield system integrates a 50mm high-energy beam rifle, a beam saber, and three Lancer Dart armor-piercing kinetic rockets. Its left-arm Gleipnir piercer lock houses a wire-guided rocket anchor with expandable claws, enabling propulsion without firing main thrusters.

Background

Constructed at the Heliopolis colony, the machine was stolen by ZAFT forces during its initial deployment. Utilizing its stealth mechanism, it penetrated the defensive perimeter of the fortress Artemis and destroyed its barrier, leading to the base's fall. During subsequent engagements against the Arcangel, it repeatedly pressed the opposing forces. In a battle off the coast of Orb, while charging to protect Athrun Zala's machine, it was hit in the cockpit by Kira Yamato's Sword Strike Gundam and destroyed. Its severed right arm was subsequently recovered by Orb.

Relationships

The mobile suit was piloted primarily by Nicol Amalfi within ZAFT, standing alongside fellow GAT-X series machines piloted by Athrun Zala, Yzak Joule, and Dearka Elsman. It was ultimately destroyed in combat against Kira Yamato. Following its destruction, its severed right arm assembly was salvaged and integrated into the Gundam Astray Gold Frame used by Rondo Gina Sahaku. Its operational data and hardware design served as the baseline for later variants such as the N Dagger N, Nero Blitz, Nebula Blitz, and Duel Blitz Gundam.

Trivia

The name Blitz is derived from the German word for lightning. Because the machine was destroyed early in the narrative and lacked complex transformation or equipment-swapping features, its 1/100 scale plastic model release was delayed relative to the other initial GAT-X units. Additionally, because its right arm was transplanted to another mecha in lore, several commercial toy lines have released the right arm and its Trikeros system separately before releasing the complete machine.
