Overview
A prominent mobile suit featured in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack and related media. Designed as the personal command machine for Char Aznable, the Supreme Commander of Neo Zeon, it stands as the ultimate symbol of his armed forces. Classified as a fourth-generation mobile suit, it incorporates advanced Psycho-Frame technology into its structural frame, balancing high mobility with specialized Newtype weaponry.
Appearance
The machine stands at an overall height of 25.6 meters with a body weight of 30.5 metric tons. It features a two-tone red and black color scheme, complemented by yellow power hoses and thruster accents. Its skirt armor displays a golden emblem derived from the initials C.D., while its head, shaped to evoke Char's helmet, houses a single green mono-eye and the core cockpit pod. The backpack accommodates three thrusters, twin funnel containers, and two optional propellant tanks. It is also fitted with flexible shoulder thrusters, numerous attitude control nozzles, and a large Gundarium alloy shield emblazoned with the Neo Zeon crest on its arm.
Abilities
Powered by a 3,960 kW generator producing 133,000 kg of thruster force, the machine utilizes a Psycho-Frame to miniaturize psycommu components, greatly boosting responsiveness and mobility. Its beam shot rifle features dual muzzles capable of firing either long-range focused beams or shotgun-style spread particles. The torso houses a fixed 8.8 MW mega particle gun for wide-range attacks. For melee, it stores twin beam sabers inside its forearm sleeves and carries a versatile beam tomahawk that changes its I-field shape into various blade modes. Its six cylindrical funnels can dock into rear backpack containers to replenish energy and propellant for continuous deployment. The Gundarium alloy shield incorporates a multi-layer beam coating and mounts three micro-missiles, while the head cockpit pod can eject independently in emergencies.
Background
Constructed for the Second Neo Zeon War in U.C. 0093, the unit was created at Anaheim Electronics' Granada facility to serve as Supreme Commander Char Aznable's flag machine. Initial efforts to modify the Geara Doga were abandoned due to spatial constraints for psycommu gear, prompting an all-new oversized frame built by Arlette Armage and Nanai Miguel featuring fully integrated Psycho-Frame technology. During the campaign to freeze Earth, it spearheaded operations at 5th Luna and defended Axis. In its final duel against Amuro Ray's RX-93 Nu Gundam, both machines depleted their armaments and resorted to close-quarters hand-to-hand combat. After its disabling, its ejected cockpit core was captured by Amuro, and the resulting Psycho-Frame resonance ultimately helped push Axis away from Earth.
Relationships
The machine serves as the dedicated mobile suit of Neo Zeon Supreme Commander Char Aznable (Casval Rem Deikun). It engaged in a dramatic rivalry with Amuro Ray, pilot of the RX-93 Nu Gundam. Its technical realization was guided by Nanai Miguel, head of the Newtype Research Institute, who conceptualized its Psycho-Frame integration, while engineer Arlette Armage designed the frame according to Char's exacting requirements. On the battlefield, it operated alongside Neo Zeon forces, supporting allies such as Gyunei Guss.
Trivia
The model designation MSN-04 marks it as a formal successor in the lineage of Zeon Newtype mobile suits following the MSN-02 Zeong and MSN-03 Jagd Doga. The golden C.D. emblem on its skirt armor represents the initials of Casval Deikun. Recognized design variants include the MSN-04FF variant equipped with twin Double Horn Funnels (featured at the life-sized Nu Gundam attraction), as well as machines like the Nightingale and Miss Sazabi.
