Jesta
The RGM-96X Jesta is a high-performance special operations mobile suit featured in Mobile Suit Gundam UC. Developed by Anaheim Electronics as part of the Earth Federation's UC Project, it was engineered to escort and support the Unicorn Gundam. Its primary role is to serve as a sweeper, clearing away surrounding conventional enemy forces so the Unicorn Gundam can focus its limited Destroy Mode operational window on confronting enemy Newtype weapons. Deployed to the Londo Bell flagship Ra Cailum for operational evaluation, it is famously piloted by the elite ace trio known as the Tri-Stars.

Appearance
Standing 19.3 meters tall, the machine has a 20-meter class silhouette featuring angular armor plating. Its head houses a vulcan pod on the right side, with the Shezarr Team configuration adding a scope-type sensor unit. A flexible sub-arm attached to the backpack carries a specialized shield, enabling all-around defense without restricting arm movement. The left forearm stores a beam saber, while the right forearm holds three spare beam rifle magazines. Three-tube grenade racks are attached to both sides of the waist. The heavy-armor Jesta Cannon variant incorporates external armor secured by explosive bolts, a right-shoulder beam cannon, a left-shoulder four-tube multi-launcher, and additional leg grenade racks.
Abilities
As a high-end development of the Jegan line, its fundamental performance reaches 90 percent of the ν Gundam. Its dedicated beam rifle features an extended barrel with secondary accelerators and deflectors, selective fire modes, and an attachable grenade unit. The shield integrates a four-tube missile launcher, while the forearm beam saber boasts higher output than standard models. The Jesta Cannon configuration adds a generator-linked shoulder beam cannon capable of sustained rapid bombardment and a four-tube multi-launcher firing specialized rounds like flashbangs, supported by explosive bolts for quick armor purging. The Shezarr Team variants deploy mission-specific gear including high-mobility backpacks, tripod-mounted mega beam launchers, and capture guns.
Background
Developed in secrecy by Anaheim Electronics under the Earth Federation's UC Project, twelve Jesta units were manufactured and assigned to the Londo Bell flagship Ra Cailum for practical testing. The units were operated by the Tri-Stars trio—Nigel Garrett, Daryl McGuinness, and Watts Stepney. The machine proved highly effective in suppressing standard enemy forces during the Laplace Incident in UC 0096. Following the cancellation of the UC Project and the military shift toward miniaturized mobile suit designs advocated by SNRI around UC 0102, the Jesta was never mass-produced on a large scale. However, six units were retrofitted for the Shezarr Team to participate in Operation Phoenix Hunt in UC 0097.
Relationships
・RX-0 Unicorn Gundam: The primary mobile suit the Jesta was engineered to accompany and protect during combat operations. ・Nigel Garrett, Daryl McGuinness, and Watts Stepney: The elite Earth Federation pilot trio known as the Tri-Stars, who operated the primary test units aboard the Ra Cailum. ・Shezarr Team: A specialized Earth Federation force that piloted custom-equipped Jestas during Operation Phoenix Hunt in UC 0097. ・RGM-89 Jegan: The standard mass-production mobile suit series from which the Jesta was derived as a high-end successor.
Trivia
Due to its high reliability and exceptional performance, the Jesta is often considered by fans to be the only practical success of the UC Project. The suit has been released as plastic model kits across both the High Grade Universal Century (HGUC) and Master Grade (MG) lines, including its Jesta Cannon and Shezarr Team variations. It also appears in video games such as the Super Robot Wars series and Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2.
