Appearance
The machine features a white and yellow color scheme based on Hoshino Fumina's personal palette. It is built as a Super Deformed model with a distinct V-fin on its head, green eyes, and green sclera. Its individual component parts, including the head, torso, legs, and backpack, are structured to separate and recombine into alternative equipment forms or small support aircraft.
Personality
As a Gunpla plastic model, the Winning Gundam does not possess an autonomous personality. However, its versatile layout reflects the creative vision and team-oriented tactical strategy of its builder, Hoshino Fumina.
Abilities
It is equipped with a Beam Machine Gun that can fire continuous shots, form a Beam Bowgun by attaching the V-fin, or generate a beam saber from its muzzle. Its Radome Shield helps analyze battle conditions and houses a deployable circular saw called the Battle Buzzsaw for close-quarters combat. When disassembled, its torso morphs into the Winning Knuckle to empower the Build Burning Gundam's strikes, while its legs and backpack join into the Winning Launcher to boost the Lightning Gundam's rifle range and output. The head continues fighting independently as a Core Fighter using embedded Vulcan Guns.
Background
Hoshino Fumina created the Winning Gundam as a replacement for her previous machine, the Powered GM Cardigan, to better suit team-based competitions. Inspired by Minato Sakai's advice regarding unconstrained creativity, she chose an SD base to implement multi-stage transformation systems. It was tailored to operate effectively in the mid-range gap between her teammates' close-range and long-range specializations. The machine later evolves into the SD-237S Star Winning Gundam.
Relationships
Built and piloted by Hoshino Fumina, the machine acts as the core support unit for Team Try Fighters. It coordinates directly with Kamiki Sekai's Build Burning Gundam and Kousaka Yuuma's Lightning Gundam by transforming into upgrade components for their weaponry. Its overall concept was inspired by the design philosophy of Minato Sakai.
Trivia
The mechanical design of the machine was created by Shinya Terashima, known for his extensive work on SD Gundam designs, with animation cleanup design provided by Hiroshi Arisawa. The word "Winning" in its title refers to achieving victory or points in sports and competition. It was released commercially as the very first kit in the SDBF Gunpla model line.
