Overview
Uso Ewin is the main protagonist of Mobile Suit Victory Gundam. Residing in Point Kasarelia on Earth, he holds the distinction of being the youngest protagonist in the Universal Century Gundam series at thirteen years old. After becoming involved with the civilian resistance group League Militaire, he acts as the primary pilot of the Victory Gundam and later the V2 Gundam in their war against the Zanscare Empire's military force, BESPA.
Appearance
He features brown hair styled in a short bowl cut and has blue eyes. He is depicted wearing long sleeves.
Personality
Despite living a demanding lifestyle tending crops and livestock in Kasarelia, Uso retains a pure and earnest nature. Raised with intense logical training by his parents, he possesses sharp analytical skills alongside the normal sensibilities of an adolescent boy, such as harboring a secret crush on an older girl. On the battlefield, his unyielding desire to protect his loved ones evokes strong protective instincts and hope from those around him. His emotional foundation is deeply bound to his childhood friend, Shakti Kareen, whose safety remains his highest personal priority.
Abilities
Trained relentlessly from an early age, Uso possesses advanced survival techniques, hand-to-hand combat skills, high-level mathematical knowledge, and an understanding of Minovsky physics. As a Newtype, he displays heightened intuitive awareness, using it alongside quick programming skills to create unorthodox tactics in combat, such as manipulating detaching parts and contact link systems. His maneuvering skills allow him to perform extreme long-range snipes and intercept incoming beam fire with his own rifle attacks.
Background
Born in Point Kasarelia, Uso was raised under rigorous instruction by his parents, Hangelg Ewin and Myra Miguel. Following their disappearance, he lived self-sufficiently alongside Shakti Kareen. His peaceful life ended when a collision with Chronicle Asher's experimental Shokew led Uso to hijack the machine. This encounter brought him into contact with the League Militaire's Camion team, leading him to pilot the Core Fighter and Victory Gundam in place of an injured pilot, drawing him fully into the conflict with BESPA.
Relationships
He regards his childhood friend Shakti Kareen like a sister, yet she acts as his emotional anchor and primary motivation. He receives complex attention and affections from female figures across opposing sides, including Marbet Fingerhut, the Shrak Team, Fuala Griffon, and Lupe Cineau. He initially harbored a crush on Katejina Loos before she became an enemy, while facing intense rivalries with Chronicle Asher and navigating complex ties with his parents, Hangelg Ewin and Myra Miguel.
Trivia
Unlike most Universal Century protagonists, Uso is a true Earthnoid who had never experienced space prior to the events of his journey. Additionally, due to his mother sharing the surname Miguel, a fan theory once circulated that he was a descendant of Char Aznable, though director Yoshiyuki Tomino explicitly debunked this claim.
