Strike Rouge
The MBF-02 Strike Rouge is a mobile suit from the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED series, developed by the Orb Union. Built using spare components and combat data from the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam, it serves as a high-performance replica and flagship mobile suit for Orb's military. Primarily piloted by Cagalli Yula Athha, the unit is distinguished by its red-tinted Phase Shift armor resulting from an upgraded internal power architecture. Throughout the conflicts of C.E. 71 and C.E. 73, the machine played a prominent role as both a combat unit and a political symbol of Orb's ideals.

Throughout the conflicts of C.E. 71 and C.E. 73, the machine played a prominent role as both a combat unit and a political symbol of Orb's ideals.
Appearance
Standing 17.72 meters tall and weighing 64.8 metric tons, the Strike Rouge features a V-fin antenna and green dual-eye main cameras. Its Phase Shift armor displays a distinct pink and red color palette when energized due to altered energy flow from its Power Extender, while reverting to standard Strike colors when powered down. The head relief text reads STRIKE ROUGE in C.E. 71 and MBF-02 ROUGE in C.E. 73. A personal emblem depicting a right-facing lion alongside a lily flower is marked on its left shoulder, and it equips an anti-beam shield painted in a custom color scheme.
Abilities
The Strike Rouge carries the baseline armaments of the Strike Gundam paired with a custom-colored anti-beam shield. Driven by the Power Extender battery pack, it gains extended operating duration and enhanced Phase Shift armor defense. Its controls feature a modified Natural OS tuned by Kira Yamato and a support AI that compensates for piloting mistakes and executes auto-evasion. Full Striker Pack compatibility allows it to mount the Aile Striker, I.W.S.P., or EW454F Ootori packs. Auxiliary configurations include leg-attached Strike Boosters for rapid atmospheric exit and integration with the Cavalier Aifrid as the Amazing Strike Rouge, granting high-output beam firepower, missiles, and flight capability.
Background
Constructed by Morgenroete using spare parts produced during the secret repair of the damaged Strike Gundam at Ameno-Mihashira, the Strike Rouge was ultimately assembled aboard the battleship Kusanagi. It entered combat during the Second Battle of Jachin Due under the command of Cagalli Yula Athha, intercepting nuclear missiles, entering the Jachin Due fortress to rescue Athrun Zala, and locating the damaged Freedom Gundam. Following the war, it performed ceremonial roles for Orb before being stationed aboard the Archangel during the conflict of C.E. 73 to intervene in battles involving Orb military forces.
Relationships
Cagalli Yula Athha serves as the dedicated primary pilot of the Strike Rouge, which displays her personal marking on its shoulder. Kira Yamato updated its Natural OS for improved usability and has personally piloted the suit during space operations. Athrun Zala was rescued by Cagalli aboard this machine from inside GENESIS prior to its destruction at Jachin Due. The lion motif on the unit's shoulder emblem references Cagalli's father, Uzumi Nara Athha, known as the Lion of Orb.
Trivia
The inclusion of a French word (ROUGE) on its forehead relief is unique within the Cosmic Era setting, where head inscriptions typically use Italian terminology. The name Rouge derives directly from the reddish hue assumed by its Phase Shift armor under the increased output of the Power Extender. The support AI software embedded in the suit laid the groundwork for systems later used in the Astray Green Frame and standard Natural pilot assistance tech. In the HD Remaster of SEED DESTINY, its default pack was updated to the custom EW454F Ootori equipment.
