Anavel Gato

Anavel Gato is a major antagonist in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory and related titles, serving as a top ace pilot for the Zeon remnant organization known as the Delaz Fleet. Renowned among Earth Federation forces as the "Nightmare of Solomon" due to his lethal combat performance during the One Year War, his name is recorded in Federation military textbooks. Driven by an unyielding dedication to Zeon's ideals, Gato acts as the prime operative in Operation Stardust, orchestrating the theft of a nuclear-armed mobile suit and executing a devastating strike against the Federation fleet while engaging in a fierce rivalry with Federation pilot Kou Uraki.

Overview

Appearance

Anavel Gato is a tall man standing 195 cm, characterized by his long silver hair tied back in a ponytail and purple eyes. He is notably depicted wearing white gloves.

Personality

Gato possesses the stern values and iron resolve of a dedicated warrior, willing to lay down his life for the ideals and independence of Zeon. He exhibits deep loyalty to his comrades and a visceral disgust toward unscrupulous figures like Cima Garahau. However, his unshakeable faith in Aiguille Delaz and bitter resentment toward the Earth Federation blind him to the destructive severity of his own actions, leading him to execute mass-casualty attacks without hesitation. Despite his composed military demeanor, he displays an intense, emotional hot-headedness and rigid zealotry that ultimately drives him to sacrifice personal relationships for his political cause.

Abilities

Gato is an exceptionally skilled pilot credited with around 100 official kills and roughly 200 total enemy units downed during the One Year War. Even after a three-year hiatus, his combat skills remain top-tier; while piloting an outdated High Mobility Type Zaku II, he can simultaneously dominate multiple state-of-the-art Jim Custom units operated by seasoned veterans. He demonstrates complete mastery over a wide array of specialized war machines, ranging from beam-bazooka-equipped Rick Doms and custom Gelgoogs to the stolen Gundam GP02A and the massive mobile armor Neue Ziel.

Background

During the One Year War, Gato served as a squadron leader in the Space Attack Force under Dozle Zabi. His fierce rearguard action during the evacuation of Solomon earned him his feared moniker. After withdrawing from A Baoa Qu alongside Aiguille Delaz, he spent years in hiding on the Moon, during which he was romantically involved with Nina Purpleton. Rejoining the Delaz Fleet in U.C. 0081, he launched Operation Stardust in U.C. 0083 by infiltrating Torrington Base and stealing the nuclear-armed Gundam GP02A. After executing a devastating atomic strike on the Federation's naval review, he took command of the mobile armor Neue Ziel to secure the target trajectory of a dropped space colony, ultimately dying in a suicidal ramming attack against a Federation cruiser.

Relationships

Gato places absolute trust and loyalty in his commander, Aiguille Delaz, whose political vision he serves devotedly. He develops a fierce rivalry with Earth Federation pilot Kou Uraki; though Gato initially dismisses him as an inexperienced novice, their repeated life-or-death battles turn them into formidable nemeses. During his period of hiding on the Moon, Gato was the lover of Nina Purpleton, whom he ultimately abandoned to pursue his military ambition, and shared a close friendship with fellow veteran Kelly Layzner. Conversely, he holds deep hostility and contempt toward Cima Garahau due to her ruthless, self-serving conduct.

Trivia

Gato's personal color scheme features a distinctive combination of blue limbs and a light-green torso, applied to his custom High Mobility Type Zaku II, Rick Dom, and Gelgoog. When presented with the powerful Neue Ziel mobile armor, he famously expressed profound delight, remarking that its silhouette resembled the emblem of Zeon itself.
