Overview
The GAT-X252 Forbidden Gundam is a mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED developed by the Earth Alliance via the National Defense Industry Federation. As one of the three second-generation GAT-X series machines, its name signifies forbidden status. Utilizing a 200-series frame derived from the GAT-X207 Blitz Gundam, it excels at blitzkrieg attacks and high-speed assault missions. It is piloted by the Boosted Man Shani Andras.
Appearance
The suit's primary visual characteristic is its massive backpack unit, which can slide over the torso and head to shift into a High-Speed Assault form. Attached to this backpack via articulated arms are broad, shield-like side assemblies. It wields an oversized scythe for close-quarters combat and features built-in cannons housed within its forearms.
Personality
While the machine possesses no consciousness of its own, its pilot Shani Andras exhibits extreme emotional instability and a sadistic fighting style. He tends to mock opponents by deflecting their attacks, frequently overusing the suit's specialized defensive armor and high-output energy weapons until the power supply is nearly depleted.
Abilities
The machine features Trans-Phase Armor for kinetic defense and the Geschmeidig Panzer beam deflection system, which warps incoming beam particles using magnetic fields. Its armament includes the Nidhoggr heavy scythe, Igelstellung 75mm anti-aircraft vulcan cannons, Armfeuer 115mm forearm cannons, Eckzahn 88mm railguns, and the Hresvelgr plasma induction cannon. By utilizing magnetic fields from the Eckzahn, the Hresvelgr can bend its beam trajectory in flight. The high-thrust backpack grants atmospheric flight capability without sub-flight equipment, and the pressure-suppressing properties of the Geschmeidig Panzer allow operation underwater.
Background
Developed as part of the Earth Alliance's second-generation GAT-X program, the Forbidden Gundam was deployed to turn the tide against ZAFT forces. During the invasion of Orb, it demonstrated unexpected tactical flexibility by submerging underwater to ambush Orb naval vessels. Operating alongside the Calamity and Raider Gundams, it repeatedly engaged the Freedom Gundam and Justice Gundam. In the final battle at Jachin Due, it was defeated in close combat and destroyed by Yzak Joule's Duel Gundam.
Relationships
The suit is assigned to the Boosted Man pilot Shani Andras. It operates in a three-unit team alongside the Calamity Gundam, piloted by Orga Sabnak, and the Raider Gundam, piloted by Clotho Buer. Throughout its operational history, it frequently fights against Athrun Zala's Justice Gundam and Kira Yamato's Freedom Gundam, before ultimately being destroyed by Yzak Joule in the Duel Gundam.
Trivia
The names of its armaments, such as Nidhoggr and Hresvelgr, are derived from creatures and figures in Norse mythology. The discovery that the Geschmeidig Panzer could counteract water pressure directly led the Earth Alliance to develop specialized amphibious variants, beginning with the Forbidden Blue. Due to its distinctive silhouette when the backpack is folded over the head, fans frequently nickname the machine the stink bug.
