Overview

Meer Campbell is a character from the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY. Originally a Coordinator who aspired to become a singer, she was selected by Chairman Gilbert Durandal to serve as a body double for Lacus Clyne after the latter disappeared. Following plastic surgery to match Lacus's features, Meer stepped into the spotlight as a public figure and propaganda idol, leveraging her resemblance to maintain political influence among the populace.

Appearance

Originally a girl with black hair, small eyes, and freckles, Meer transformed her appearance through cosmetic surgery to closely match Lacus Clyne. She has straight, dark pink hair adorned with a star-shaped hair accessory, blue eyes, and a noticeably voluptuous build. Her signature stage attire consists of high-cut, body-conscious leotards in white and purple with matching gloves. She is routinely accompanied by a red Haro that speaks in English.

Personality

Meer is an upbeat and optimistic girl who tends to act on emotion without overly contemplating future consequences. Entranced by her newfound popularity as the surrogate idol, she becomes increasingly attached to her persona, gradually blurring the line between reality and her fabricated identity. She displays a remarkably bold, pushy side when expressing affection toward those she likes, often forcing affectionate contact without hesitation.

Abilities

Meer possesses high-level vocal ability with a voice tone very close to that of Lacus Clyne, performing high-energy pop renditions of songs such as Quiet Night C.E.73 and EMOTION. For her public rallies, she utilizes a specially painted pink Zaku Warrior outfitted with heart markings, a red Haro emblem, and star motifs, performing song-and-dance routines directly on the mobile suit's open palm.

Background

A longtime fan of Lacus Clyne, Meer joined Chairman Durandal's campaign after her natural voice was deemed an exceptional match. Appearing publicly following the Foxtrot November incident, she performed rally concerts to console citizens and troops. However, as the political landscape shifted and the real Lacus surfaced to challenge her broadcasts, Meer lost her utility to the administration and was secluded in Copernicus. Ultimately, when an assassination unit ambushed the real Lacus, Meer shielded her idol from gunfire, dying from severe wounds after begging that her life and song not be forgotten.

Relationships

Meer was selected and sponsored by Chairman Gilbert Durandal to act as his political puppet. Unaware that the political betrothal had effectively ended, she pursued Athrun Zala aggressively under the assumption that she was his rightful fiancée. Though she harbored a deep reverence for the genuine Lacus Clyne, their confrontation over identity led Meer to briefly point a weapon at her, before Lacus's empathy helped them reconcile shortly before Meer gave her life to protect her.

Trivia

Visual distinctions between Meer and the real Lacus include Meer's star-shaped hair clip and straighter, deeper pink hair, as opposed to Lacus's crescent moon ornament and slightly wavy, paler hair. The personal diary Meer left behind was discovered by Lacus after her passing, heavily influencing Lacus's resolve in the conflict's final stages.
