Sumeragi Lee Noriega

Overview

Sumeragi Lee Noriega is a character from Mobile Suit Gundam 00. Serving as a skilled tactical forecaster for the private armed organization Celestial Being, she acts as the practical leader and commander aboard the crew's motherships, Ptolemaios and Ptolemaios II. She devises almost all strategic operations for the Gundam Meisters and assigns their respective code names.

Appearance

She is a woman with long wavy brown hair, brown eyes, and a voluptuous figure. In the first season, her main attire consists of a purple sleeveless top that exposes her midriff, cropped white pants, and high heels. During casual outings at a bar, she has been seen in summer clothes with a skirt and stockings. In the second season, her tighter fit in the standard Celestial Being uniform reflects her period of self-neglect. As a student, she tied her hair in a ponytail and wore a miniskirt.

Personality

Highly trusted by her crew, Sumeragi balances bold strategic insight with a deeply caring, motherly demeanor. She frequently offers comfort and guidance to team members struggling with personal identity or grief. Despite her professional brilliance, she heavily relies on alcohol, often drinking even during critical combat situations to numb the lingering trauma of a past strategic failure.

Abilities

As a brilliant tactical forecaster, Sumeragi excels at reading battlefields and formulating precise predictions. Her tactical planning ranges from high-risk lightning strikes to intricate rescue operations. Demonstrating exceptional command aptitude aboard mobile suit carriers, she effectively leads her ship through severe combat environments and novel tactical crises.

Background

Born Leesa Kujo, she studied in the Union before serving as a tactical forecaster for the AEU. A fatal communication failure during an operation resulted in a friendly fire incident that took the life of her lover, Emilio Ribisi, prompting her eventually to join Celestial Being. Following the devastating battle with the UN forces, she went into hiding, plagued by guilt, until Setsuna F. Seiei persuaded her to resume her duties aboard Ptolemaios II.

Relationships

During her university years under Professor Ralph Aifman, she formed close bonds with Billy Katagiri and Kati Mannequin; the latter served as her role model and later became a formidable opposing commander. She acts as a protective, supportive figure to Celestial Being members including Setsuna F. Seiei, Allelujah Haptism, Tieria Erde, and Feldt Grace.

Trivia

During the Break Pillar incident, she broadcasted an uncoded visual communication to all military forces to save civilians, making her identity public. Decades later in AD 2364, a deep-space exploration vessel was officially named Sumeragi in her honor.
