Overview
The RGM-79N GM Custom is a high-performance mass-production mobile suit from the Earth Federation Forces, featured in works such as the original video animation Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. Developed during the post-One Year War reconstruction era as an upgraded model for veteran pilots, it stands as one of the elite front-line units of its generation.
Appearance
Derived from the structural concept of the Gundam NT-1, the machine features a contoured head design that brings its outline closer to a Gundam-type unit, though without a V-fin. Its main visor is uniquely inverted to prioritize downward visibility, housing internal sensor systems. While its standard space deployment paint scheme is uniform light blue, variants appear in standard red-and-white, gray and blue, dark blue and black, or green accents on the chest and soles.
Personality
As a machine, it has no personal disposition, but it is known for its remarkably balanced and responsive flight handling. Its cockpit hydraulics were customizable to suit individual pilot preferences. Its operational profile is famously summarized by Kou Uraki as having no remarkable traits other than its complete lack of distinctive defects or bias.
Abilities
Constructed with frame rigidity matching Gundam-type machines, it utilizes titanium-ceramic composite armor, a high-output generator, extra thrusters, and magnetic coating on its joints for elevated speed and maneuverability. Armed with head-mounted 60mm vulcan guns, a beam saber on its backpack, a 90mm GM Rifle, a 90mm bullpup machine gun, and an anti-beam-coated shield, it delivers versatile combat performance.
Background
Manufactured at the Jaburo depot using design elements from the Gundam NT-1 alongside combat data from experienced pilots, the machine was deployed to the assault carrier Albion during the Delaz Conflict. Following the theft of the Gundam Physalis, these units engaged enemy forces, including Cima Garahau's Gelgoog Marine fleet. After the conflict, its production lines were assumed by the Titans to produce the GM Quel, while remaining units served in various factions such as the AEUG.
Relationships
Within the Albion unit, the machine was piloted by key veteran aviators, including Captain South Burning, Alpha A. Bate, Bernard Monsha, and Chap Adel. It was also involved in a training mock battle against Kou Uraki, who piloted the Gundam Zephyranthes.
Trivia
The visual design of the GM Rifle, the unit's primary firearm, takes design inspiration from the real-world British L85 assault rifle. The machine served as a design foundation for several derivative models, including the heavy-artillery GM Cannon II and various customized variants across spin-off media.
