Carta Issue

Overview

Carta Issue is a character in Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. Holding the rank of Colonel, she serves as the commander of Gjallarhorn's Outer Earth Orbit Regulatory Joint Fleet. As a high-born noblewoman from the Issue family—the top seat among the Seven Stars—she carries herself with intense pride and nobility. Having grown up alongside McGillis Fareed and Gaelio Bauduin, she leads her fleet with an unyielding commitment to honor.

Appearance

Carta features pale skin, short silver hair, reddish eyes, and distinctive rounded "maro" eyebrows. Her uniform includes a prominent cape paired with detached sleeves.

Personality

Carta combines high self-esteem and a fierce competitive streak with a surprisingly pure, maidenly heart. She maintains high moral standards, treating both rivals and subordinates with respect regardless of rank. However, her romanticized view of battle leads her to treat warfare like formal chivalrous duels. Though demanding of her squad, she demonstrates deep care by personally ensuring their rescue and mourning their losses, earning their absolute devotion. Harboring an unrequited crush on McGillis Fareed, she surrounds herself with blonde, blue-eyed male officers who resemble him.

Abilities

As a fleet commander, Carta directly enters combat piloting a Graze Ritter Commander Type. Although her assigned fleet lacks practical combat experience, she possesses strong mobile suit piloting skills, good combat instincts, quick tactical recovery, and a gift for ambush maneuvers. However, her strict adherence to formal rules of combat leaves her ill-prepared for surprise attacks and unpredictable battlefield situations, often putting her forces at a disadvantage.

Background

With her father bedridden, Carta relied on her guardian Iznario Fareed to preserve her family's influence while commanding her fleet. Tasked with stopping Tekkadan's descent to Earth, she failed to block them in orbit and descended to Earth in her Graze Ritter to redeem her honor. During a battle on Millennium Island, her unit killed Biscuit Griffon, provoking the wrath of Mikazuki Augus and forcing her retreat. In a subsequent encounter, she formally proposed a three-on-three duel, but Mikazuki ambushed her mid-speech. Severely injured and suffering from severe hypothermia when freezing water breached her cockpit, she died in Gaelio's arms, mistaking him for her beloved McGillis.

Relationships

Carta has held an unrequited love for her childhood friend McGillis Fareed since youth, which heavily influences her personal preferences. She shares a bickering yet affectionate relationship with another childhood friend, Gaelio Bauduin, who comforts her in her final moments. She holds resentment toward Almiria Bauduin due to her engagement to McGillis. Politically, she depends on her guardian Iznario Fareed, while on the battlefield she encounters brutal retaliation from Tekkadan's Mikazuki Augus.

Trivia

Due to her silver hair, pale skin, distinct eyebrows, and noble demeanor, viewers frequently associate her visual design with that of a fox. Following her death, the Issue family line ended without a successor, which ultimately contributed to the breakdown of the Seven Stars oligarchy and the transition toward a democratic system.
