Overview
The GAT-X105 Strike Gundam is a prototype mobile suit appearing in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and its related media. Developed by the Atlantic Federation in collaboration with Morgenroete, it is the fifth and final unit of the initial GAT-X series. Designed as a versatile multi-role unit, it features the Striker Pack System, which allows it to adapt to various combat ranges and scenarios by swapping out specialized back-mounted equipment.
Appearance
Standing at an overall height of 17.72 meters and weighing 64.8 metric tons, the unit is constructed around a 100-series frame. It utilizes Phase Shift armor, which alters its exterior appearance when active versus when it undergoes a Phase Shift Down from battery depletion. Certain remanufactured units feature a slightly darker coloration due to adjusted power distribution.
Abilities
Through its Striker Pack System, the suit can equip multiple specialized modules—including the Aile, Sword, Launcher, I.W.S.P., Gunbarrel, Lightning, and Multiple Assault packs—which also act as auxiliary power sources. Its built-in armaments are limited to head-mounted 75mm Igelstellung CIWS units and folding Armor Schneider combat knives stored in the side armor. Additionally, it handles a hand-connected 57mm high-energy beam rifle, an anti-beam shield, and a rocket-launching bazooka for underwater engagement.
Background
Secretly constructed at the Heliopolis colony, the Strike escaped capture during a surprise raid by ZAFT forces. Kira Yamato dynamically rewritten its operating system during the conflict and became its primary pilot while assigned to the Archangel. After sustaining heavy damage in a battle against the Aegis Gundam, the suit was repaired by Morgenroete and transferred to Mu La Flaga. It was subsequently destroyed saving the Archangel during the Battle of Jachin Due, though salvaged parts and data were later used for testing and developing derivative machines.
Relationships
Kira Yamato was the initial pilot who dynamically optimized the machine's incomplete operating system. The suit engaged in a devastating duel with Athrun Zala's Aegis Gundam, which culminated in the latter's self-destruction. Following its repair, Mu La Flaga took over as pilot during its service with the Three Ships Alliance. In later re-production models, Sven Cal Bayang served as a test pilot for data-gathering projects.
Trivia
The name 'Strike' derives from the English word for attack. Its operating system boot screen featured the acronym 'G.U.N.D.A.M.', leading pilot Kira Yamato to refer to the machine as a 'Gundam'. An oversized sword named the XM404 Grand Slam exists as an exclusive accessory for scale plastic models and collectibles.
