Overview

The Hambrabi (model number RX-139) is a prototype transformable mobile suit featured in the anime series Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and related works. Developed at the Titans' stronghold known as the Gates of Zedan with design contributions from Paptimus Scirocco, the unit is distinguished by its stingray-like silhouette and versatile mobility. Built to execute swift tactical transformations and aggressive close-to-mid-range combat, it became famously associated with the formidable pilot Yazan Gable and his squad, who posed a major threat to the AEUG and Kamille Bidan's Zeta Gundam.

Appearance

Designed with an aquatic, ray-like silhouette, the Hambrabi is armored with Gundarium Alloy and features five individual mono-eye sensors positioned across its body for enhanced searching capability. Its forearms house foldable claws that double as landing gear in Mobile Armor mode. Additionally, the unit incorporates back-mounted wings, twin beam rifles on its rear structure, and a long tail lance that doubles as a flight stabilizer.

Abilities

The Hambrabi features exceptional versatility and rapid transformation capabilities, converting between Mobile Suit and Mobile Armor modes in approximately 0.5 seconds due to its streamlined leg-folding mechanism, Movable Frame, and magnet coating. Its fixed armaments include twin back-mounted beam rifles, forearm-mounted beam sabers that double as beam guns when stowed, folding arm claws, and a tail lance acting as a stabilizer. It utilizes specialized capture weaponry such as the Sea Serpent wire system that discharges high-voltage electricity into targeted craft, and can execute a three-unit cooperative network attack known as the Spiderweb. It can also field heavy handheld firepower like the long-range Fedayeen rifle.

Background

Developed at the Gates of Zedan facility by the Titans military faction, the Hambrabi was created to supersede the Gabthley by streamlining the transformation system for superior field maintenance and reliability. Paptimus Scirocco directed its foundational concepts. Upon joining Scirocco's forces, Captain Yazan Gable was assigned the unit, forming a specialized three-machine team alongside Lieutenants Dunkel Cooper and Ramsus Hasa. The squad inflicted severe damage on AEUG forces, repeatedly driving Kamille Bidan and his Zeta Gundam into desperate battles. Although highly effective throughout the Gryps Conflict, Yazan's unit was ultimately destroyed in intense combat against Kamille, though Yazan managed to escape.

Relationships

Paptimus Scirocco directed the foundational design of the Hambrabi and provided the units to Captain Yazan Gable when Yazan joined his command. Yazan became the primary operator of the machine, commanding a tight-knit cell alongside fellow pilots Lieutenant Dunkel Cooper and Lieutenant Ramsus Hasa. Together, they frequently engaged Kamille Bidan of the AEUG, pushing Kamille and his Zeta Gundam to their absolute limits in numerous combat encounters.

Trivia

The mecha was designed by Mamoru Nagano. It was originally conceptualized under the tentative name Crux to serve as the Methuss for the AEUG, but its radically unconventional look led to its reassignment as a Titans unit. Nagano intended its Mobile Armor form to carry out a hit-and-run tactic dubbed ship sinking, slashing through enemy warship propulsion systems at high speeds. Additionally, the name Hambrabi appears as an alternate title for the enemy character Blue Bat in the credits of Namco's classic arcade game The Return of Ishtar.
