Overview
Riddhe Marcenas is a major character in Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. Serving as an Ensign and mobile suit pilot in the Earth Federation Space Forces' elite Londo Bell unit, he acts as a central perspective character for the Federation during the Laplace Incident. As the heir to the highly influential Marcenas political dynasty—a family tracing its roots back to Ricardo Marcenas, the Earth Federation's first Prime Minister—he rejects his family's political background and enters military service to establish his own identity.
Appearance
Riddhe is a young man with blonde hair and blue eyes. As an Earth Federation mobile suit pilot, he wears a standard pilot suit accompanied by gloves and a protective helmet. A distinctive personal item he keeps with him is a lucky charm consisting of a miniature biplane encased within a transparent container.
Personality
Riddhe possesses an earnest temperament combined with a strong sense of justice and stubborn independence. Loathing political privilege and corruption, he rejects his family's leverage to make his own way. However, his unyielding nature leads to an obsessive impulse to shoulder every crisis alone, ultimately causing severe psychological stress. Despite piloting mobile suits, he harbors a romantic longing for traditional aircraft as symbols of unconstrained freedom.
Abilities
Riddhe is a skilled Londo Bell pilot who demonstrates high competence with transformable mobile suits, including the ReZEL and the Delta Plus. In combat, he uses a Beam Magnum to defeat the massive mobile armor Shamblo. He later assumes control of the RX-0[N] Banshee Norn. Through intense engagements, he awakens as a Newtype, ultimately generating a massive Psycho-Field alongside the Unicorn Gundam to deflect the destructive beam of a Colony Laser.
Background
Born in U.C. 0073, Riddhe joined the military to distance himself from his family. In U.C. 0096, he rescued Audrey Burne (Mineva Lao Zabi) at Industrial 7. Struggling with his complex feelings toward her and the dark secret of Laplace's Box held by his lineage, her rejection plunged him into despair. Encouraged by Alberto Vist, he took command of the Banshee Norn to oppose Banagher Links. After causing a tragic casualty, he regained his resolve and fought alongside Banagher to protect the Box. Post-conflict, he retired from military duty to serve as his father's secretary.
Relationships
Riddhe develops feelings for Audrey Burne (Mineva Lao Zabi), but her rejection of his self-serving rescue deeply fractures his composure. His rivalrous jealousy toward Banagher Links eventually transforms into mutual respect as they join forces in the final confrontation. He bonds with Alberto Vist over shared distress, receiving the Banshee Norn through his influence and maintaining a lasting friendship afterward. The accidental death of Marida Cruz serves as the catalyst for his awakening, and he later reconciles with his father, Ronan Marcenas, by becoming his assistant.
Trivia
In the anime adaptation of Gundam Unicorn, the sequence where Riddhe destroys the Shamblo was specifically structured as his narrative turning point while sparing Banagher from killing an acquaintance. In external crossover titles, his depiction varies: while cast as an enemy in the Compati Hero series, entries in the Super Robot Wars franchise feature characters such as Kira Yamato and Captain Ash offering him sympathetic guidance regarding his burden.
