Overview

The Salamis-class space cruiser is a mass-produced warship of the Earth Federation Space Force featured throughout the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise. First deployed during the One Year War, it serves as the core vessel of the Federation's naval space fleet across various Universal Century conflicts.

Appearance

Designated as a combat space cruiser for the Earth Federation Space Force, the vessel is equipped with an atmospheric reentry capsule mounted at the bow section to facilitate travel to the surface of the Earth.

Abilities

Functioning as a mainstay cruiser for the Earth Federation Space Force, the ship is built to participate in naval combat in space. It houses an atmospheric reentry capsule in its front hull section, allowing personnel to descend from space to the surface of the Earth.

Background

Constructed in large numbers prior to and during the One Year War, the Salamis-class served as the primary backbone of the Earth Federation Space Force. The class was deployed extensively in decisive fleet engagements, including the Battle of Solomon and the Battle of A Baoa Qu. It appears as a quintessential Federation fleet vessel across multiple titles, including Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN, and Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO.

Relationships

Within the Earth Federation Space Force fleet organization, the Salamis-class operates alongside the larger Magellan-class battleships to form primary battle groups. During the One Year War, these cruisers routinely engaged Zeon naval forces, fighting against Musai-class light cruisers and Zaku II mobile suit units.

Trivia

The class takes its name from the historical naval Battle of Salamis in ancient Greece. Modernized variants, such as the Salamis Kai, were introduced in later conflicts like the Gryps War, featuring enhanced mobile suit launch capabilities and unique faction liveries.
