Chara Soon

Overview

Chara Soon is a female Neo Zeon officer appearing in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. Initially dispatched to monitor the performance of Mashymre Cello, she later assumes command of the cruiser Endra. While demonstrated to be a capable strategist who quickly captures target sectors, she possesses a peculiar mental trait that activates whenever she operates a mobile suit. After being captured by the AEUG ship Argama, she undergoes Cyber-Newtype reinforcement, eventually rising to lead Haman Karn's personal guard during the final stages of the Neo Zeon conflict.

Appearance

Chara Soon is characterized by her split-colored hairstyle, featuring distinct hair colors divided straight down the middle. She has blue eyes, long hair, and wears purple lipstick. Possessing a uniquely voluptuous physique, she dons an outfit designed to emphasize her chest, later adopting an even more reveal costume following her Cyber-Newtype conversion. Her attire includes black elbow-length gloves and a red cape.

Personality

Chara displays supreme confidence in her attractive physique, frequently taking pleasure in flustered reactions from her male colleagues through flirtatious behavior. Despite her bold outer demeanor, she is fully aware of her propensity to enter a trance-like euphoric state inside a mecha cockpit, making her reluctant to pilot directly into battle. During her captivity on the Argama, she proved capable of performing routine domestic chores like cleaning and laundry. Following her Cyber-Newtype conditioning, her personality becomes increasingly erratic and aggressive, though moments of her original self occasionally resurface.

Abilities

Chara is an adept military commander who successfully captured a target colony sector within nineteen hours. As a mobile suit pilot, she demonstrates high combat power aboard her custom machines, the AMX-104 R-Jarja and later the heavy-assault AMX-015 Geymalk. After undergoing Cyber-Newtype surgery, her spatial awareness and piloting capabilities are enhanced to an exceptional level, enabling her to stand against an entire unit of Mass Production Qubeleys.

Background

Chara began her prominent military service by overseeing operations in Side 1. Sent to serve aboard the Endra, she eventually took charge of the vessel. Following a failed operation against the AEUG, she was taken prisoner aboard the Argama, where she was assigned daily chores before managing to escape at the lunar city of Granada. Upon returning to Axis, she was subjected to Cyber-Newtype reconditioning. Re-emerging as the leader of Haman's royal guard, she deployed in the Geymalk to confront the rebel forces of Glemy Toto, ultimately sacrificing her life against a squadron of Mass Production Qubeleys to clear the way for Haman and Judau.

Relationships

Chara serves under Haman Karn, showing total dedication to her leader until her death. She frequently teased her fellow officer Mashymre Cello with physical overtures. While captive on the Argama, she developed an unexpected bond with Judau Ashta, who treated her with a level of camaraderie. During her time on the ship, she was given an infamous body-related moniker by crew member Elle Vianno. After her surgical enhancement, she was constantly monitored by her subordinate officers, Nee Gihren and Lance Gihren.

Trivia

Chara's fate varies across different adaptations. In the novel version of Gundam ZZ, she avoids captivity by the AEUG and eventually disappears alongside her subordinate Gotton Go, with rumors suggesting they ran away together. In the side-story manga for Mobile Suit Gundam UC, her name is borrowed as an alias by Elle Vianno during an illegal MS fighting tournament. In several entries of the Super Robot Taisen video game series, players can recruit her and unlock her powerful final mecha, the Geymalk.
