Overview
Achilles is a Servant appearing in works such as Fate/Apocrypha and Fate/Grand Order. Recognized as the greatest hero of the Trojan War in Greek mythology, he is primarily summoned under the Rider class. Known as the Rider of Red during the Great Holy Grail War, he is portrayed as a top-tier hero who combines unmatched swiftness with near-absolute invulnerability.
Appearance
Achilles is a muscular man standing 185 cm tall and weighing 97 kg. He features short, undercut green hair and eyes displaying shades of yellow and brown. His attire consists of a black shirt worn underneath lightweight silver armor, complemented by shoulder guards, gauntlets, and gloves.
Personality
Achilles possesses a bold, high-spirited personality anchored in supreme confidence in his martial prowess. While arrogant toward enemies, he acts as a dependable and friendly older-brother figure to allies. He despises taking orders from authority and acts according to his own convictions, placing high value on honor and loyalty. Having chosen a short but brilliant life since childhood, he harbors no regrets about his fate and constantly seeks formidable opponents capable of challenging him.
Abilities
Renowned as the fastest Servant, Achilles excels in close combat by simultaneously wielding a spear and sword. His Noble Phantasm Andreas Amarantos negates all attacks from foes lacking Divinity, though damaging his heel nullifies this invulnerability and drastically reduces his speed. Through Battle Continuation, he can keep fighting even after receiving mortal wounds to his heart. His armaments include Troias Tragoidia, a three-horse chariot that tramples enemy forces, Diatrekhon Aster Lonkhe, a spear capable of creating an isolated arena for fair duels, and Achilles Cosmos, a massive shield that deploys a miniature world to block incoming attacks.
Background
Born to the hero Peleus and the sea goddess Thetis, Achilles was raised and educated by the centaur Chiron. When faced in childhood with the choice between a quiet, long life or a short, glorious one, he chose to live brilliantly and entered the Trojan War. He defeated mighty champions such as Hector and Penthesilea, but eventually perished when Paris shot his heel and heart with guidance from Apollo. In Fate/Apocrypha, he is originally summoned by Cabik Pentel before becoming involved in the conflict led by Shirou Kotomine.
Relationships
Achilles holds deep respect for his mentor Chiron, despite fighting against him in the Holy Grail War. He shares intense rivalries with Trojan prince Hector and Penthesilea, the Amazon queen who harbors a vengeful hatred toward him. He is also connected to Paris, who inflicted his fatal wound, and Patroclus, his cherished companion in life. Additionally, he shares a bond of tutelage under Chiron with Heracles, Jason, and Asclepius.
Trivia
Because his name is the origin of the anatomical term "Achilles tendon", he receives a massive fame boost comparable to Heracles regardless of where he is summoned. His possession of the world-encompassing shield Achilles Cosmos grants him aptitude for the Shielder class. His extraordinary determination to continue fighting even after receiving mortal wounds is influenced by his admiration for the legend of the Japanese warrior Benkei standing tall in death.
