Overview

Oryou is a character appearing in the Fate series, debuting in Fate/KOHA-ACE and prominently featured in Fate/Grand Order. She serves as the constant companion and visual partner to the Rider-class Servant Sakamoto Ryouma. Beneath her human appearance, she is the true physical manifestation of Sakamoto Ryouma's Noble Phantasm, Amakakeru Ryuu ga Kotoku, and is a powerful ancient serpent entity originating from the Age of Gods.

Appearance

In her human form, she takes the appearance of a woman with long black hair and blunt bangs, featuring red or purple eyes. She wears a retro-style black sailor uniform accessorized with a neck ribbon, long sleeves, a skirt, thigh-high socks, and sneakers. Her accessories include rings and jewelry, paired with black nail polish. Her true physical form is a massive, dark serpent-like dragon.

Personality

Oryou possesses a free-spirited, haughty, and blunt disposition. Driven by raw, animalistic instincts, she rarely reads the social dynamic around her. Exceptionally wary of strangers, she generally obeys no one other than Sakamoto Ryouma. Although she frequently addresses Ryouma with harsh sarcasm, she deeply cares for him and protects him from danger. She has an extreme fondness for frogs and a visceral hatred of slugs. Naive regarding human societal knowledge, she casually displays dangerous habits, such as asking to eat opponents before combat.

Abilities

Originating from the Age of Gods, she possesses immense mystery, Divinity, and Monstrous Strength, rendering normal attacks ineffective against her thick defense. In battle, she strikes with earth-shattering punches and manipulates the length and hardness of her hair to impale targets from all directions. She can exhale a vision-obscuring black mist to damage foes, and her saliva holds supernatural healing properties capable of instantly curing severe trauma. Upon releasing her Noble Phantasm, she manifests as a colossal dragon of destructive power. While activation risks temporary erasure, sufficient mana backing can prevent this. In human form, she can float at knee height. Due to her high mystery, she is exceptionally vulnerable to anti-divine and anti-mystery abilities.

Background

Created by dying gods in a distant land, she was cast away due to her unsightly form and drifted to Mount Takachiho. Filled with resentment, she sought to ascend to the heavens, but was impaled and sealed by the spear Amano Sakaboko. Centuries later, Sakamoto Ryouma pulled the spear and set her free. Though she initially intended to devour him, his naive kindness completely neutralized her malice, leading her to linger by his side. She served as his shadow bodyguard during the Bakumatsu period. However, while out gathering ingredients to prepare shamo hot pot for an ailing Ryouma, he was assassinated in her absence. Consumed by grief, she sank to the ocean floor.

Relationships

Sakamoto Ryouma is her savior and most cherished partner, to whom she accords absolute devotion despite her harsh remarks. She shares a contentious history with Okada Izou, mocking him as a useless slug while secretly respecting his combat reliability when circumstances demand it. She harbors deep hatred toward Sasaki Tadasaburo and Imai Noburo of the Kyoto Mimawarigumi for murdering Ryouma. She also healed Fujimiya Tsukumo's injuries in Fate/type Redline, and gradually warms up to the Master Fujimaru Ritsuka in Fate/Grand Order, frequently presenting them with frogs.

Trivia

She is distinguished from Sakamoto Ryouma's historical wife, Narasaki Ryou, being designed instead as a unique mythical entity. Her visual design was created by Keikenchi and refined by pako. Frog-themed goods often serve as key items associated with her, whereas shamo fowl hot pot remains a profound source of psychological trauma because of its connection to Ryouma's fatal assassination. Her backstory draws heavy inspiration from the Japanese mythological deities Hiruko and Ahashima.
