Overview
Asterios is a character appearing in the Fate series, originating from Greek mythology. In Fate/Grand Order, he is summoned as a 1-star Berserker-class Servant, and he also makes an appearance in Fate/Labyrinth. Widely known throughout the world by the epithet Minotaur, his true name signifies lightning. Although forced into the role of a monster and confined within a labyrinth during his life, he possesses a gentle heart that longs for light and nature rather than darkness.
Appearance
Asterios possesses a towering, colossal build, standing 298 cm tall and weighing 150 kg. He has white hair, red eyes, and a body covered in numerous scars. On his head, he wears an iron mask crafted to resemble a bull's skull. He is bare-chested and wears jewelry including earrings. In battle, he wields a pair of giant axes known as the Labrys of the Abyss.
Personality
Despite his intimidating, scarred appearance and iron mask, Asterios possesses a gentle, innocent, and pure-hearted personality resembling a young boy. Due to Mad Enhancement, his speech is broken and hesitant, yet he remains capable of basic communication with his Master. He strongly dislikes being treated as a beast and avoids interpersonal conflict, preferring solitude, clear blue skies, flowers, and cool natural breezes. When acknowledged by his true name rather than as a monster, he repays that respect with complete loyalty, devoting himself to protecting his Master as a human being.
Abilities
As a half-human, half-beast hailing from divine bull lineage, Asterios naturally exhibits extraordinary physical power through skills like Natural Demon and Monstrous Strength, allowing his strength and endurance to reach levels impossible for humans. In combat, he uses his twin axes for close-range strikes, infuses his weapons with lightning, emits shockwaves via roars, and collapses labyrinth structures onto foes. His Noble Phantasm, Chaos Labyrinthos: Eternal Undangerous Labyrinth, manifests the maze in which he was once imprisoned, applying severe attack and defense debuffs to all enemies.
Background
Born to Pasiphaë, wife of King Minos of Crete, as a result of a curse from Poseidon that compelled her to mate with a divine bull, Asterios was born with the body of a man and the head of a bull. To hide his existence, Minos commissioned the master craftsman Daedalus to build an inescapable Labyrinth to imprison him. Driven to act as a beast within the dark maze, he was eventually slain by the hero Theseus. Though he harbored no inherent malice and desired only the light of the outside world, his fate as a monster was sealed until his re-summoning.
Relationships
He places absolute trust in Fujimaru Ritsuka for recognizing him as Asterios rather than a monster. He forms a close bond with Euryale, dedicating his strength to protecting her. He holds no grudge against Theseus, the hero who killed him in life, even showing concern for him in return. Although King Minos treated him strictly as a beast and locked him away, Asterios harbors no resentment toward his adoptive father. Additionally, Europe treats him warmly as her step-grandson, bestowing maternal affection upon him.
Trivia
The dual axes he carries, Labrys of the Abyss, were originally a single double-bladed axe that Asterios reconfigured into two separate weapons. In various seasonal Christmas events and Concept Cards, he is humorously cast in the role of a reindeer. Etymologically, the name Asterios derives from Greek terms meaning star or celestial light.
