Summoned by Miyamoto Iori during the Waxing Moon Ritual, Yamato Takeru fights alongside their Master through the conflicts of Edo-period Japan.
Appearance
Yamato Takeru has long black hair styled with a single braid, accompanied by an ahoge and hair intakes. Characterized by striking orange eyes and traditional jewelry, the Servant wears ancient Japanese attire. In battle, they carry a distinctive jagged, snake-like sword, which is normally shrouded in a watery sheath to conceal its true form.
Personality
Yamato Takeru displays a brave and dignified warrior spirit combined with an innocent, inquisitive nature. They show deep fascination with peaceful streetscapes and unfamiliar foods, harboring a voracious appetite particularly satisfied by white rice. Addressing their Master plainly as 'Caller,' they interact with others without deference to status. Although capable of pragmatic and ruthless tactical decisions during combat, they remain receptive to their Master's guidance.
Abilities
Yamato Takeru commands top-tier combat skills backed by Water-attribute Mana Burst, enabling swift wave-like movement, high-pressure liquid attacks, and versatility in offense, defense, and debuffing. Possessing offensive advantages against divine and demonic entities, their strength grows as allies fall. Their armaments include the masking Noble Phantasm Divine Water, the multi-striking Technique: Yatsuta Noto, and the anti-world Noble Phantasm World Sword: Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi, a divine construct crafted to subdue disasters.
Background
Born as a prince to Emperor Keiko, Yamato Takeru was dispatched across ancient Japan to suppress rebellious warlords and monstrous beasts. Fearing the prince's immense martial prowess, the Emperor provided minimal support, forcing Takeru to rely on cunning, ambushes, and ruthless tactics throughout lonely campaigns. After losing his beloved wife Ototachibanahime and suffering a curse from the deity of Mount Ibuki, Takeru succumbed to exhaustion on the journey back to Yamato, his soul ultimately transforming into a white bird.
Relationships
Yamato Takeru forms a deep bond of mutual trust with their Master, Miyamoto Iori, evolving from initial skepticism into a solid partnership. They share a warm relationship with Iori's adopted sister, Ogasawara Kaya, fond of her home-cooked meals and miso soup. Historically, Takeru held deep devotion for their beloved wife Ototachibanahime, while maintaining a complex dynamic with their royal father, Emperor Keiko.
Trivia
Yamato Takeru is occasionally likened to an Eastern counterpart of King Arthur. Due to incomplete knowledge granted upon summoning, they frequently speak modern or unfamiliar concepts in katakana terms. Official documentation leaves the character's gender deliberately ambiguous.
