Overview
Gorgon is an Avenger-class Servant appearing in Fate/Grand Order. Originating from Greek mythology, she represents the tragic phase of Medusa—the youngest of the three Gorgon sisters—just before fully metamorphosing into a complete monster. Summoned in a state where her monstrous nature is intensely magnified, she acts as a queen of demonic beasts. In the Babylonia Singularity, she serves as a primary antagonist within the Alliance of Three Goddesses aiming to eradicate humanity.
Appearance
Her base human physical stats are listed as over 172 cm in height and over 57 kg in weight, though her complete body including monstrous appendages is vastly larger. Her long purple hair consists of living serpents surrounding a single giant red eye that embodies her Mystic Eye. She possesses monstrous features such as sharp claws, scales, slit or square pupils, large breasts, and wings in her later ascension. Her attire features a black or white bustier and a skirt with a front curtain that leaves her midriff and navel exposed. In her initial form, she wears a golden visor decorated with a single-eye motif to seal her petrifying gaze.
Personality
Unlike her standard Heroic Spirit form, Gorgon exhibits a cold and detached demeanor. She openly enjoys human suffering and inherently stands as an existential threat to mankind. Although hostile enough to threaten her own Master's life, forming a deeper bond causes her to display subtle mercy, promising a gentle death. She struggles to handle overly assertive individuals and actively avoids them. Furthermore, she harbors guilt and lingering intimidation toward her older sisters whom she devoured in myth, while showing a surprisingly self-conscious side regarding her massive weight when other versions of Medusa are nearby.
Abilities
Gorgon possesses exceptionally high physical attributes, with her Strength and Endurance reaching rank A++, transcending standard Heroic Spirits. In combat, she attacks using claw slashes, blood absorption via palm contact, tail strikes combined with petrifying flame gazes, and destructive beams fired from magic circles or serpent mouths. Her skills include Monstrous Strength, Metamorphosis, and the petrifying Mystic Eyes Cybele. Her Noble Phantasm, Forced Seal - Pandemonium Cetus, briefly manifests her full monster form to dissolve all life in a designated area. She also utilizes Self Seal - Breaker Gorgon in the form of a golden visor to lock her eyes and restrict opponent actions.
Background
In mythology, Medusa succumbed to a curse that transformed her into a terrifying demonic entity. After absorbing her own sisters inside her boundary field, she was ultimately defeated by the hero Perseus, who reflected her petrifying gaze back at her. Summoned into Fate/Grand Order as an Avenger, her monstrous traits are disproportionately amplified. During the Babylonia Singularity, she poses as the goddess Tiamat, constructing the Blood Fort to turn captured humans into demonic beasts. Although defeated by Chaldea's forces alongside her own younger self, she later re-emerges during the revival of the true Tiamat to buy critical time for Uruk's defense.
Relationships
She remains deeply intimidated by her older sisters, Stheno and Euryale, feeling lingering trauma and guilt over having devoured them in myth. She harbors fierce hatred for the hero Perseus who killed her, as well as the Olympian deities Poseidon and Athena who caused her transformation. Toward her Master, Ritsuka Fujimaru, she maintains a cold exterior while developing a silent understanding. Other variants of Medusa represent different stages of her existence. With Kingu, who acted as her officer in Babylonia, she shared a complex, pseudo-maternal bond.
Trivia
The term "Cetus" in her Noble Phantasm name refers to the sea monster slain by Perseus using Medusa's severed head, sharing an etymological root with the sea goddess Ceto, Medusa's mythological mother. Additionally, when residing in Chaldea alongside her Rider self, she grows self-conscious about her heavy monstrous weight and attempts to cut back on her meals.
