Overview

Goetia is the primary antagonist and final mastermind of the first main storyline of Fate/Grand Order, Observer on Timeless Temple. Formed from the collective consciousness of the 72 Demon Gods originally created by King Solomon, he manifests after Solomon's death by hijacking his body. Masquerading as Solomon under the false class of Grand Caster, Goetia orchestrates the Incineration of Human History. He is classified as Beast I, the Beast of Pity among the Seven Evils of Humanity. His ultimate goal is to harvest the energy of human civilization to regress 4.6 billion years in time to the planet's genesis, aiming to forge a complete world where death does not exist.

Appearance

While hijacking King Solomon's body, Goetia takes on the physical form of a dark-skinned man with long hair and golden eyes. Thin Demon Pillars radiate from his frame like a hovering aura, and his voice manifests as a double-layered synthetic tone. He wears ten rings across his fingers, though only the ring on his right middle finger is a replica. In his true demonic form, he appears as a colossal beast constructed from interconnected Demon Pillars, featuring a massive eye on his chest and prominent horns. Upon losing his omnipotent demonic status, he adopts a scarred, blonde humanoid state known as King of Men.

Personality

Reflecting Solomon's foundational influence, Goetia possesses a highly rational and analytical intellect. However, containing 72 individual Demon Gods endows him with up to 72 distinct personality facets, causing him to act as a mirror that displays the Demon Pillar most similar to whomever he interacts with. He harbors intense despair and resentment toward human imperfection, suffering, and inevitable mortality, feeling both disgust at Solomon's passive acceptance of these tragedies and profound pity for human fate. Though his vast power and immortality initially prevented him from comprehending mortality, his grand scheme was driven by a distorted desire to save humanity from suffering.

Abilities

Goetia commands formidable capabilities, including rank A Territory Creation capable of constructing the Temple of Jerusalem, and High-Speed Incantation comparable to Divine Words. His EX-rank Summoning allows him to freely manifest any of the 72 Demon Gods, while his Clairvoyance observes past and future. He possesses Independent Manifestation (A), granting immunity to instant death and temporal attacks, and Nega-Summon (EX), which nullifies Servant attacks and Noble Phantasms. Through Solomon's rings, he controls or negates all human magecraft. His Noble Phantasms include Ars Paulina, an isolated imaginary space forming the Grand Time Temple, and Ars Almadel Salomonis, a catastrophic heat-ray formed by converting all human history into a concentrated ring of light.

Background

Originally established by King Solomon as a protective system to maintain proper order, the 72 Demon Gods shared Solomon's sight, observing centuries of human sorrow and mortality. Following the king's death, the Demon Gods remained sealed within his remains, where their joint grief evolved into an autonomous collective consciousness named Goetia. Concluding that humanity was flawed and worthless, Goetia sought to break the paradox of superior beings serving humans. To achieve divinization, he seeded magi lineages across human history to ignite seven Singularities, collapsing the foundations of humanity. By burning human history up to 2016—the limit of his Clairvoyance—he harvested the resulting energy to power his ultimate temporal voyage back 4.6 billion years.

Relationships

Goetia holds a complex resentment toward King Solomon, his original creator and host body, despising Solomon's calm acceptance of human mortality while striving to achieve the divine status Solomon never pursued. He faces Ritsuka Fujimaru, the Master of Chaldea, as his primary adversary in the battle for human survival; upon losing his omnipotence, Goetia confronts him directly as a mortal man in a final duel of conviction. To the individual 72 Demon Pillars that comprise his collective entity, Goetia is recognized and addressed as the Control Bureau.

Trivia

Goetia's Demon King form was designed by Kotetsu Yamanaka, who was initially hired to design the Demon Pillars before scenario writer Kinoko Nasu appointed her to create Goetia's primary visual design. His King of Men form was designed by Takashi Takeuchi. The kanji for his grand spell, Reverse Canal / Light-Year of Genesis, directly matches the Last Arc used by Aoko Aozaki in MELTY BLOOD, sparking fan commentary regarding potential thematic connections. Fans commonly refer to him by nicknames such as Ge-san or Ge-no-ji.
