Overview

Brynhild is a Servant appearing in works such as Fate/Prototype: Fragments of Blue and Silver and Fate/Grand Order. Primarily summoned under the Lancer class, she is the eldest of the Valkyries in Norse mythology and a daughter of the chief god Odin. Cast down from divinity to the mortal realm, she is depicted as a tragic heroine. While possessing a quiet and devoted demeanor, she carries a agonizing destiny that forces her deep love for someone to manifest as an uncontrollable urge to end their life.

Appearance

She wears blue and white armor paired with a massive silver spear made of mythril featuring a giant blade. Her long hair blends white and pale blue tones, framing purple eyes. Adorning the back of her head is a wing-like structure, which is not mere decoration but actual wings growing directly from her skull. In her swimsuit form, she dons a white bikini, wears eyeglasses matching those of her husband, and trades her spear for a broadsword.

Personality

She exhibits a soft-spoken, devoted, and modest demeanor, maintaining a gentle smile tinged with sorrow. She is naturally drawn to individuals with noble spirits and heroic traits. However, her affection is bound to a curse-like nature that turns profound love into a destructive impulse to slay the object of her feelings. Aware that her passion brings tragedy, she suffers from the inability to suppress her fatal urges and grows flustered whenever others treat her with warmth.

Abilities

Possessing exceptional physical attributes in strength, endurance, and agility, she fights effectively at both close and long ranges using a mythril spear wreathed in blue flames and rune magic. Her skills include Magic Resistance, Riding, Mana Burst (Flames) to generate fire, and Helping Hand of the Hero to grant tactical support to allies. Her main Noble Phantasm, Brynhild Romantia, causes her spear to expand in size, weight, and destructive power proportionally to the intensity of her love toward the target.

Background

Originally an emotionless automaton-like Valkyrie serving Odin, she was stripped of her divinity and cast down to the mortal realm after disobeying her father. Upon meeting the hero Sigurd, she acquired human emotions and fell deeply in love with him. However, caught in a web of deceit and tragedy, Sigurd was killed, leading Brynhild to end her own life in flames. As a Heroic Spirit, her very existence remains defined by the tragedy of slaying her beloved. In Fate/Prototype: Fragments of Blue and Silver, she was summoned by Nigel Sayward and compelled via an elixir to fight in the Holy Grail War.

Relationships

She harbors enduring affection for her husband Sigurd, yet her heroic nature compels her to attack him on sight. Her younger Valkyrie sisters look up to her as their revered eldest sister. Conversely, she holds deep hatred toward Gunnar, who deceived her in life, and Gudrun, her romantic rival. Siegfried evokes similar intense feelings due to his shared legendary origins with Sigurd. Toward her Master Nigel Sayward, she maintained a strained dynamic controlled by Command Seals and alchemical elixirs.

Trivia

Designed by Miwa Shirow, with Nakahara providing original artwork for Fragments of Blue and Silver. The wing ornaments on her head are organic wings growing directly from her skull rather than simple headwear. Even in its base form, her spear weighs over 100 kilograms, which she effortlessly wields with one hand.
