Overview
Woodwose is an NPC appearing in Fate/Grand Order during Part 2, Chapter 6: Avalon le Fae. He is the head of the Fang Clan, one of the six major fairy clans in the British Lostbelt, and serves as the Lord of Oxford. Known by the title "Sub-Bell Hundred Species: Duke of Exhaust Heat," he succeeded his predecessor Wryneck. As one of the oldest vassals serving Queen Morgan, Woodwose is fiercely devoted to her rule and stands as one of the most powerful leaders and formidable combatants within the Fairy Kingdom.
Appearance
Woodwose is a wolf beastman fairy characterized by long white hair, yellow eyes, sharp teeth, animal ears, and a wolf tail. His body is covered in fur, and he typically dresses in refined gentlemanly attire consisting of a black suit with a vest, long sleeves, trousers, and white gloves. When stepping onto the battlefield to fight seriously, he tears off his gentlemanly clothing to unleash his raw physical strength.
Personality
Woodwose strives to maintain a cultured, gentlemanly demeanor, referring to himself with formal pronouns. Unlike typical members of the Fang Clan who embrace savage brutality, he despises raw wildness, enforcing strict dining etiquette and advocating for a vegetarian diet over meat. However, he remains naturally short-tempered and fierce, occasionally losing his composure over unexpected setbacks and lethally venting his rage on subordinates. Overconfident in Queen Morgan's trust, his pride often leads to arrogance and carelessness. In the presence of Aurora, for whom he harbors romantic feelings, his speech becomes noticeably more casual.
Abilities
Classified under the Caster class, Woodwose commands raw martial strength comparable to True Ancestors and Spirit Species. He is nearly invincible in single combat, capable of overwhelming elite forces of the Round Table Army on his own. Through his "Lungs of the Star," he instantly regenerates from extreme damage, surviving full-power strikes from the Selection Spear and continuing to fight even after suffering fatal wounds like a gouged-out heart or liver. In battle, he fires mana blasts from his hands and slashes with energy-coated claws. His charge attack, "Torrent," combines high-speed movement in a red-black aura with a flying knee kick, claw slashes, and a massive explosive mana projectile.
Background
Born as the successor to Wryneck, Woodwose inherited the title of Duke of Exhaust Heat and became the ruler of Oxford. Learning of the tragic annihilation of the Wing Clan caused by his ancestors prior to his birth, he sought to atone for their sins by adopting strict manners and promoting vegetarianism. Under his governance, Oxford severely restricted general entertainment while allowing food establishments to flourish, transforming it into a renowned dining hub. Having served Queen Morgan for over a thousand years, he fought fiercely against the rising Round Table Army. Ultimately, his overconfidence and manipulation by others led to his tragic downfall, culminating in his body being consumed by Beryl Gut.
Relationships
Woodwose pledges absolute allegiance to Queen Morgan, who genuinely respects his combat prowess and constant effort to learn from the past. He harbors intense affection for Aurora, the leader of the Wind Clan, relaxing his demeanor only in her presence. He succeeded his parent fairy, Wryneck. Percival of the Round Table Army was his former martial arts student, leading to a bitter clash despite their mutual respect. He maintained a rivalry with Bogart over refined manners and felt deep guilt toward Murian due to his clan's historical atrocities against hers. He also dispatched the eccentric Fang Clan fairy Redra Bit to serve Aurora.
Trivia
His name originates from the wild man of the woods found in British folklore, a figure mentioned in the epic poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Ironically, the ideal of a polite, self-restrained, and naturally vegetarian Fang Clan fairy that Woodwose strived to cultivate was mirrored in the eccentric behavior of Redra Bit, whom he had sent to Aurora. In the game's narrative vision, he is notable as one of the few characters who successfully kills the protagonist within a simulated outcome. His character design was created by Murayama Ryota.
