Overview
Hector is a character from the Fate series, debuting as a Lancer-class Servant in Fate/Grand Order. Known in Greek mythology as the first prince and chief general of Troy, he was dubbed "Hector of the Shining Helmet." Facing the overwhelming military power of the Achaean forces during the Trojan War, he commanded the army in place of his aging father, employing brilliant tactics and defensive warfare that defied the expectations of even the gods.
Appearance
Hector is a man with long brown hair tied into a ponytail using a blue ribbon, paired with brown eyes and a goatee. He wears a cape and gloves in his attire. Despite holding the epithet "of the Shining Helmet," he is depicted without a helmet on his head. He is also seen smoking hand-rolled cigarettes.
Personality
Hector often presents himself as a lazy, easygoing middle-aged man who dislikes physical exertion and prefers a quiet, ordinary life. However, this relaxed demeanor is partly a strategic front to conceal his sharp intellect. In truth, he is a deeply loyal, serious-minded commander and politician. When contracted to a Master or serving a faction, he faithfully and reliably executes his duties to the end.
Abilities
In combat, Hector wields the legendary weapon Durindana, capable of switching between its forms as an armor-piercing thrown spear, Durindana Pilum, and a sword, Durindana Spada. He utilizes dynamic martial techniques, including rocket propulsion from his right elbow for thrusting attacks and spear rotations to disperse enemy flames. He excels primarily in defensive maneuvers and possesses high endurance along with strong tactical skills for commanding troops.
Background
During the Trojan War, Hector took command of Troy to defend his homeland against the Achaean forces. He held off the enemy for ten years, utilizing hit-and-run tactics against formidable foes like Achilles. Though he eventually fell in a duel against Achilles, his legacy endured, earning him a place among the Nine Worthies in European tradition. In Fate/Grand Order, he appears in several chapters, including the Okeanos singularity as a formidable opponent.
Relationships
Hector shares a deep rivalry with Achilles from their lifetimes. He is the older brother to Paris, Cassandra, and several other siblings. During the war, he fought Great Aias and exchanged weapons with him. Generations later, heroic figures who inherited or sought his weapon—such as Bradamante, Mandricardo, and Roland—view him with immense reverence as a legendary ancestor. In the third singularity, he worked alongside Jason and Edward Teach.
Trivia
In later legends, the holy sword Durandal wielded by Roland is believed to be the transformed sword form of Hector's weapon, Durindana. Artifacts tied to his legend and the gates of Troy serve as suitable catalysts for summoning heroic spirits from the Trojan War.
