Overview

Andromeda is a Rider-class Servant appearing in Fate/Grand Order. Originating from Greek mythology as a princess of Aethiopia, she is famous for being offered as a maiden sacrifice to a sea monster before being rescued by the hero Perseus. Despite her royal bloodline, she possesses an outgoing, cheerful, and tomboyish demeanor.

Appearance

She is characterized by her dark, sun-kissed skin and an outfit heavily adorned with chain motifs. Her design features a pair of wings and distinctive ornaments on her back. Her hair color changes depending on her Ascension state, reflecting her past habit of dyeing her hair to sneak away from her studies. Her combat visual elements include sharp floating rocks, a spinning chakram, and saw-like chains near her feet.

Personality

She is a lively, friendly girl who speaks in an informal, colloquial manner. Although she received formal royal tutoring in life, she frequently skipped class to go swimming and remains disinclined toward rigid formal etiquette. She loves helping people, swimming, and spending time with children, but dislikes seeing anyone unhappy. While intensely devoted to her husband Perseus, she becomes deeply flustered whenever romantic conversations come up.

Abilities

Due to the mythic curse of her sacrifice, a strong conceptual bond ties her to a massive rock via chains. She utilizes this in battle by swinging the rock attached to her chains like a flail. Her moveset incorporates rock projectiles, chain restraints, body presses, and attacks assisted by spinning chakrams. Her Class and Personal Skills include Riding, Magic Resistance, Daughter of Cassiopeia, Sacrificial Maiden, and Oracular Chain Nereides. Her Noble Phantasm, Aethiopia Cetus, forcibly dredges up the petrified sea monster Cetus using her chains, allowing her to ride the giant creature directly into enemies.

Background

Born to King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia of Aethiopia, her mother's boastful claim of beauty angered the sea god Poseidon, bringing ruin upon the realm. To appease the gods, she was chained to a coastal rock as a sacrifice to the monster Cetus. She was rescued by Perseus, who turned the monster to stone using Medusa's head. She subsequently married Perseus, becoming an ancestor to renowned figures like Heracles and the Dioscuri, before being placed in the heavens as a constellation by Athena.

Relationships

She holds immense affection for her savior and husband, Perseus. She regards her descendant Heracles warmly despite his Berserker state, and interacts with her Master, Ritsuka Fujimaru, on friendly, equal terms. Her relation to the sea monster Cetus is unusual, as it willingly serves as her mount in battle. She shares a empathetic bond with characters like Caenis over their shared troubles with Poseidon, and feels a mutual connection with Zenobia due to their shared association with heavy chains.

Trivia

She is the namesake of the real-world Andromeda Galaxy, which appears prominently in the visual background of her Noble Phantasm animation. While historical depictions of the monster Cetus often render it as a dragon or sea serpent, its depiction in her Noble Phantasm is presented as a sleek, mechanical white whale.
