Overview
Beryl Gut is one of the seven Crypters serving as primary antagonists in Fate/Grand Order: Cosmos in the Lostbelt. Originally selected for Chaldea's elite Team A, he acts as the Master assigned to govern Lostbelt No. 6, Avalon le Fae. On the surface, he presents himself as a talkative and easygoing older brother figure, but beneath this casual demeanor lies a sadist recognized as a vicious serial killer. Linked with his Servant Morgan, he plays a highly unpredictable and dangerous role throughout the story's main campaign.
Appearance
Beryl Gut is a tall man featuring a uniquely cropped pompadour-style hairstyle, subtle facial stubble, chest hair, and noticeably pointed ears. He wears dark upper clothing paired with eye-catching bright red trousers and suspenders, alongside a peculiar pendant around his neck and glasses. Blood is frequently smeared across his lower face, and his Command Seal bears a sinister motif resembling a wolf or dragon head. Later in the narrative, he physically mutates into a formidable beast-like state after consuming the heart of a powerful sub-species.
Personality
Superficially friendly, talkative, and prone to acting like a relaxed older brother, Beryl possesses a deeply sadistic and twisted psyche. He derives extreme pleasure from inflicting pain, taking lives, and causing harm to others. His eccentric preferences lead him to favor pitiable or intriguing individuals while despising those who are cheerful or dull. Highly skilled at self-deception, he approaches disagreeable assignments with unexpected thoroughness. Beryl harbors a disturbing obsession with Mash Kyrielight, expressing what he considers affection through acts of cruelty and physical violence.
Abilities
Originating from an ancient magus lineage, Beryl is proficient in witchcraft and cursecraft, alongside practical skills in tailoring and gardening. Within Chaldea, he was appointed as an executioner tasked with eliminating deserters during operations, granting him deep access to internal secrets such as the mechanics of Sirius Light. He possesses lethal assassination techniques and taught dark curses to Fairy Knight Tristan. By consuming the heart of Woodwose, he integrated an A-Ray spirit origin into his own body, gaining tremendous physical strength and monstrous power.
Background
Born to a human and a witch mother, Beryl learned black magic during childhood before blinding his mother and running away. He lived as an infamous assassin in the criminal underworld, earning the moniker Werewolf before being recruited into Chaldea by Marisbury Animusphere. Prior to the main events, he broke into Mash's room to injure her, resulting in him being beaten and confined by Dr. Romani Archaman. Upon resurrection, he was assigned to Lostbelt No. 6, where he summoned Morgan. Following a dramatic shift in the Lostbelt's history, he assumed the role of Queen Morgan's nominal consort. He betrayed and murdered Kirschtaria Wodime in the Atlantic Lostbelt, only to meet his ultimate end in Britain after losing to Chaldea and succumbing to a fatal curse.
Relationships
While Kirschtaria Wodime valued Beryl's willingness to perform dirty work, Beryl ultimately betrayed and killed him. He maintained an unhealthy obsession with Mash Kyrielight until his death. Though initially dismissive of Fujimaru Ritsuka, he eventually recognized them as a legitimate threat. With Morgan, he shared a functional yet nominal marriage alliance, while serving as a mentor in dark arts to Fairy Knight Tristan. His relationship with Scandinavia Peperoncino ended in fatal conflict, as Peperoncino retaliated against Beryl's lethal attack by transferring a deadly curse onto him.
Trivia
His name is understood to be derived from the mineral beryl and the word gut, echoing his sinister persona. Author Kinoko Nasu noted that Beryl was the Crypter he found easiest to write, while jokingly warning never to stay alone with him in an enclosed room. The troublesome princess Beryl complained about during team meetings was later confirmed by the author to refer to Fairy Knight Tristan, though Beryl intentionally mixed lies into his accounts to deceive his peers.
