Overview
Jason is a character from TYPE-MOON's Fate series, appearing as a Saber-class Servant. Originating as a prince of Iolcus who was originally named Diomedes, he is renowned in Greek mythology as the captain of the Argo. Although often presented as arrogant, self-centered, and cowardly, he is fundamentally a legitimate commander who possesses exceptional leadership and an uncanny ability to formulate brilliant tactics when driven into absolute desperation.
Appearance
Jason is a young man with short blonde hair and green eyes. He wears jewelry including earrings, and dons armor when equipped for combat.
Personality
Jason is boastful, ill-mannered, and openly hates putting himself in danger, preferring safe and easy victories. When things go his way, he easily becomes overconfident, often resulting in embarrassing setbacks. Despite his cowardly and petty demeanor, his underlying ideal to build a peaceful nation where no one is mistreated is genuine. While lazy and demanding under normal circumstances, intense pressure brings out his fierce determination and decisive command skills.
Abilities
Despite belonging to the Saber class with Magic Resistance and Riding skills, Jason possesses virtually no individual combat prowess. Instead, his strength lies in extraordinary vessel control and strategic command. He has an exceptional ability to escape dire situations through desperate actions, though he dislikes using it. His leadership style inspires unique courage in former crewmates. His Noble Phantasm, Astrapste Argo, summons the Argonauts to strike the enemy, though its effectiveness fluctuates based on how morally justified his cause is.
Background
Born to King Aeson, who was deprived of his throne, Jason was raised by the centaur Chiron. To reclaim his birthright from his uncle Pelias, he was tasked with retrieving the Golden Fleece. He built the ship Argo and gathered Greek heroes to form the Argonauts. With the magic of Princess Medea, he succeeded in his quest, but his subsequent betrayal of her led to a horrific tragedy. After losing his status, his life ended wretchedly when he was crushed by a piece of the decaying Argo.
Relationships
Medea is his ex-wife, toward whom he feels immense terror and guilt due to the tragic collapse of their marriage. Heracles is his closest friend and fellow student under Chiron; Jason harbors immense trust and admiration for him, never allowing anyone to insult his strength. Achilleus and Asclepius are also his fellow disciples who studied under the same teacher.
Trivia
His name is derived from the Greek word meaning healer. Due to his overly proud demeanor combined with frequently pathetic behavior, he has earned several humorous nicknames among the fanbase. In the Servant Universe alternate setting, he appears as an intergalactic bounty hunter under the name Jason Argo.
