Appearance
He has short black-streaked hair with an ahoge and is depicted with red and blue eyes. He wears round glasses with an eyewear strap, a blue striped collared shirt with a necktie, a white suit jacket beneath a Japanese-patterned coat, and carries a katana at his waist.
Personality
He uses the personal pronoun "boku." Normally a gentle and kind teacher, he naturally possesses a passionate streak that drives him to resolute action. Under the influence of the lingering grudges of the fallen Shogunate, he acts as a cold, arrogant figure who harshly rejects his former student Takasugi Shinsaku. This influence also causes his lifelong fascination with exploring the world outside Japan to escalate into an uncontrollable desire.
Abilities
Using the power of the Holy Grail, he commands Emiya Alter and the Kiheitai as his personal forces. He generates funds by selling "Shoin Daifuku," a confectionery that induces devotion in those who consume it, allowing him to construct and operate the massive battleship Kurofune. In battle, he acts as a living replacement for the missing mana reactor of Takasugi Shinsaku's mecha Arahabaki, supplying it with energy at great personal cost.
Background
A samurai from the Choshu domain who mentored Takasugi Shinsaku and Kusaka Genzui at his academy, the Shoka Sonjuku. Summond in a state where the grudges of the fallen Edo Shogunate possessed his spirit, he adopts villainous methods to build a massive corporation and construct the warship Kurofune to reach the outside world. Retaining his inner will, he ultimately aids Takasugi and Chaldea in defeating the physical manifestation of the grudge, entrusting the future to his student and Fujimaru Ritsuka before departing.
Relationships
Though he treats his former student Takasugi Shinsaku with harsh disdain during the incident, he fundamentally trusts his potential. He holds high regard for Kusaka Genzui, another of his historic disciples, as well as Sakamoto Ryoma. He employs Emiya Alter as a subordinate via the Holy Grail's authority and respects Fujimaru Ritsuka, the Master of Chaldea who opposes his plans.
Trivia
He appears strictly as a non-playable character, leaving his official Servant class unassigned. He is depicted sharing a drink with Takasugi Shinsaku in a tropical resort setting on the Craft Essence "Beyond the Bubbles."
