Scathach

Overview

Scathach is a Servant appearing in Fate/Grand Order and Fate/EXTELLA LINK. In Celtic and Ulster mythology, she is a warrior queen and the guardian of the Land of Shadows. A master of both spear technique and ancient Rune magic, she famously trained the young Cu Chulainn and passed down her skills and legendary spear. Having reached a semi-divine state that denies her mortal death, she seeks a warrior capable of ending her long existence.

Appearance

Scathach features very long purple hair and red eyes. Her central attire is a form-fitting, dark purple full-body suit. In her initial appearance, she wears a black mask over her lower face. As her stage changes, she removes the mask and gains a black veil and cape adorned with gold embroidery. She has also been depicted in swimwear and a bunny-style outfit.

Personality

Scathach possesses a proud, regal demeanor fitting for a queen. While distant and authoritative, she possesses a natural insight into the talents of others and exhibits a spartan teaching style. Beneath her stern exterior lies a warrior's passion for combat and a mild desire to form connections outside of mentorship, though she reacts sharply to lighthearted jokes regarding her age.

Abilities

Scathach wields dual versions of an ancient Gae Bolg, demonstrating mastery over single, dual, and multi-spear combat techniques. She commands powerful divine-era Rune magic, possesses deep insight through Wisdom of the Haunted Ground, and holds the God Slayer trait against divine entities. Her Noble Phantasms include Gae Bolg Alternative and Gate of Sky, which summons a passage to the Land of Shadows to pull in surrounding enemies.

Background

Having ruled the Land of Shadows and instructed legendary heroes like Cu Chulainn and his son Connla, Scathach achieved a state beyond humanity. This immortality left her unable to die naturally, leaving her trapped until the end of the world. Because her realm was destroyed during the Incineration of Humanity, she temporarily entered a state akin to death, allowing her summoning as a Servant. She continues to search for a warrior—ideally her former pupil—capable of defeating her.

Relationships

Scathach shares a historic mentor-student bond with Cu Chulainn, having trained him through intense, life-threatening trials, as well as his son Connla. Toward the Master of Chaldea, Fujimaru Ritsuka, she takes on a supportive yet demanding role, often subjecting them to strict training regimes while seeking a unique relationship beyond that of teacher and pupil.

Trivia

In fan communities and side works like Gudaguda Order, Scathach is commonly referred to by nicknames such as Shishou (Master). A Caster-class variant influenced by the Norse deity Skadi, named Scathach-Skadi, also exists within the franchise.
