Overview
Percival is a Lancer-class Servant appearing in the Fate franchise, originally introduced in Fate/Grand Order. As the Second Knight of the Round Table from Arthurian legend, he is a heroic figure celebrated for completing the quest for the Holy Grail alongside Sir Galahad and wielding the Holy Spear Longinus. Though he initially appears in the British Lostbelt (Avalon le Fae) as a key leader of the Round Table Army in Londinium, his Pan-Human History heroic spirit form can also be summoned to Chaldea. Known as the Pure Fool, Percival blends impeccable chivalry with an earnest, gentle personality.
Appearance
Percival possesses short white hair, blue eyes, and a broad, muscular build. He wears a set of pristine white armor—consisting of a breastplate and shoulder armor—over a black bodysuit. In his advanced combat form, a shield is directly attached to his shoulder for optimized defense. He also wears a casual attire variant designated as the Summer Knight Outfit.
Personality
Percival is a pure-hearted, chivalrous knight whose absolute honesty earns him the moniker Pure Fool. He embraces his destiny with unwavering sincerity and possesses a deeply compassionate nature. Incapable of overlooking anyone who is hungry or malnourished, he harbors a strong belief that children are cherished treasures and habitually serves overwhelming, mountain-sized portions of meat and root vegetables. His gentle aura attracts wild animals, frequently causing small birds to rest on his shoulders and arms. While unfailingly polite to allies, he strictly disapproves of romantic infidelity and unhesitatingly reprimands loose behavior. During leisure time, he enjoys visiting art museums in newly encountered cities.
Abilities
Percival excels in mid-range combat using the Holy Spear Longinus, possessing top-tier defensive skills capable of nullifying a swift fourteen-hit barrage with minimal effort. He is a master of mounted combat, summoning the fairy horse Kuntry in battle. His capabilities include Magic Resistance, Riding, the healing and protective skill Light of Salvation, Protection of the Holy Grail, and Guardian Knight (Holy Spear). His Noble Phantasm, Longinus Count Zero, releases the double seal of Sir Galahad and Sir Balin to unleash a devastating Anti-Fortress light that shatters defenses while simultaneously bestowing invincibility penetration and restoring the health of injured comrades.
Background
In Arthurian tradition, Percival is the knight who traveled alongside Sir Galahad to attain the Holy Grail. While Galahad ascended to heaven upon its discovery, Percival was tasked with bringing the Holy Spear Longinus back to the earthly realm. In Fate/Grand Order, a version of Percival born within the British Lostbelt leads the Round Table Army in Londinium to resist regional threats. The Heroic Spirit from Pan-Human History subsequently joins Chaldea as a Lancer. Additionally, he appears in Fate:Lost Einherjar, summoned as a Servant under the Master Gagam Istorre during a Subspecies Holy Grail War.
Relationships
Percival holds his sovereign, Artoria Pendragon, in high esteem, frequently checking on her well-being. He treats Gareth with deep brotherly affection and mourned her tragic early death during their lifetimes. He maintains a friendly rapport with Gawain, testing their physical strength against each other. His admiration for Sir Lancelot, whom he glimpsed in a forest during childhood, originally motivated him to pursue knighthood. Due to his strict moral stance on fidelity, he reprimands both Tristan and Gaius Julius Caesar for their romantic carelessness. He was notably one of the few individuals capable of holding pleasant conversations with the misanthropic Agravain, and shares a bond with Sir Galahad and Sir Balin via the Holy Spear's double seal.
Trivia
Percival was designed by artist Shiramine for Fate/Grand Order, with additional artwork by Shiro Miwa for Fate:Lost Einherjar, and his scenario text written by Hikaru Sakurai. His depiction incorporates elements from Richard Wagner's opera Parsifal, where he is designated as the chosen wielder of Longinus. His placement as the Second Knight of the Round Table reflects his ancient origins tracing back to Welsh mythology and the Mabinogion. Fans frequently refer to him as the Disney Princess Knight due to his in-game animations where wild birds freely perch on his arms and shoulders.
