Overview
Chiron is a Servant appearing in the Fate franchise, debuting in Fate/Apocrypha as the Archer of Black summoned by Fiore Forvedge Yggdmillennia, and also featured in Fate/Grand Order. Identified as the legendary centaur sage of Greek mythology, Chiron served as the mentor to many famous Greek heroes. Renowned for his wisdom, noble character, and versatile combat prowess, he acts as the primary strategist for the Black Faction during the Great Holy Grail War, standing as one of the most reliable Servants of the Archer class.
Appearance
Chiron appears as a dignified young man with a serene aura. He has long blonde or brown hair, green eyes, and wears grass-green archer attire accompanied by a blue scarf and understated jewelry. Although his true physical form is that of a centaur—having a human upper body and a horse lower body—he voluntarily chooses to manifest in a two-legged human form during Holy Grail Wars, accepting a minor reduction in stats to prevent opponents from immediately discovering his True Name.
Personality
Chiron is soft-spoken, highly polite, and unfailingly respectful toward everyone regardless of rank. Deeply observant and insightful, he offers tailored, practical guidance while maintaining a humble demeanor regarding his own vast talents. He possesses a profound affection for humanity, admiring human perseverance despite inherent flaws. As an educator, he excels at motivating others through a balanced approach of gentle encouragement and firm discipline. He dislikes altercations between drunks, as well as poison and serpents.
Abilities
As a master archer, Chiron can effortlessly intercept supersonic arrows in total darkness and enhance his arrows with magical energy for increased speed and explosive force. He is also a master of Pankration, the ancient Greek mixed martial art, allowing him to counter and throw physical attackers in close combat. His skill God-Given Wisdom permits him to utilize almost any non-unique skill at B to A rank—including medicine, herbalism, and various arts—and transfer them to allies with Master approval. Combining Clairvoyance with Mind's Eye (True) grants him pseudo-future vision and tactical analysis. His Noble Phantasm, Antares Snipe, strikes directly from the Sagittarius constellation without requiring a bow-drawing motion or True Name chant, auto-tracking targets and dispelling defensive buffs once per night.
Background
Born to the deity Kronos—who took the form of a horse—and the nymph Philyra, Chiron was born a centaur. Abandoned by his mother who transformed into a linden tree out of shock, Chiron educated himself to become a great sage. On Mount Pelion, he mentored famous Greek heroes such as Heracles, Achilles, Jason, Asclepius, and Castor. After accidentally being struck by a Hydra-poisoned arrow shot by Heracles, Chiron suffered immense pain due to his immortality. He eventually surrendered his immortal life to Prometheus, ascending into the sky as the constellation Sagittarius. His wish for the Holy Grail is to regain his lost immortality, which he treasures as the sole remaining proof of his connection to his parents.
Relationships
Chiron serves his Master, Fiore Forvedge Yggdmillennia, with utmost loyalty and acts as her insightful advisor. He also serves Fujimaru Ritsuka in Fate/Grand Order as a trusted tactical instructor. He maintains a complex dynamic with his former student Achilles, facing him as an enemy in the Great Holy Grail War while remaining the only warrior in his faction capable of piercing Achilles's divine invulnerability. He holds fond yet firm memories of other pupils like Heracles, Jason, and Asclepius. The Olympian gods, including Demeter, are his half-siblings through Kronos.
Trivia
Chiron was designed by artist Konoe Ototsugu. He is the mythological figure associated with the constellation Sagittarius. In Fate/Grand Order gameplay, his skill set—which provides party-wide critical damage increases and card performance buffs—makes him a popular support buffer in battle strategies.
