Overview

Tiamat is a character featured in Fate/Grand Order and related titles. Rooted in ancient Mesopotamian mythology as a primordial creation deity, she manifests as Beast II, the Beast of Regression, holding one of the Seven Sins of Humanity. Originally acting as an apocalyptic threat intent on overwriting Earth's existing ecosystem after being abandoned by her children, she later appears in a juvenile spirit origin known as Larva/Tiamat under the Alter Ego class, dedicating herself to protecting and doting upon the Master as her beloved child.

Appearance

In her adult state, Tiamat stands at approximately 160 cm, featuring massive curved horns symbolizing the earth, eyes reflecting the planet's inner sea, long aqua-blue hair, and pointed ears. In her inactive Femme Fatale form, her arms are sealed in restraints, and she wears a minimal, highly revealing dark outfit. Upon transforming into her dragon state, she becomes a human-faced dragon over 60 meters in length, capable of growing wings of magical energy from her horns. As Larva/Tiamat, she takes on a juvenile form standing around 140 cm, dressed in a small dress.

Personality

Tiamat is fundamentally a gentle earth mother goddess filled with love for all living things. However, her mental state collapsed upon becoming a Beast, stripping her of speech and reason and leaving her driven by raw instinct to wipe out humanity. Despite her rampage, she retains deep underlying love for mankind, subconsciously accepting her rejection and imposing constraints on herself. When manifesting in her juvenile Larva form with her intellect intact, she acts as an energetic, intensely protective mother figure who dotes heavily on the Master.

Abilities

As a primordial deity, Tiamat possesses immense magical energy reserves and infinite life-generation capabilities. Her authority includes Beast Authority, Independent Manifestation, Monstrous Strength, Self-Modification, and Nega-Genesis—a conceptual barrier that nullifies the Noble Phantasms of Human and Star category Servants. She produces a black mud called Chaos Tide that enforces an Amino Geass on living organisms, corrupting them into her kinsmen and creating over a hundred million Lahmu. Lacking the concept of death while life exists on Earth, she cannot be killed by conventional attacks and unleashes miasma, destructive light beams, massive tides, and a force known as O Child, Obey the Laws of Creation. In her dragon form, attacks below rank A++ are nullified.

Background

In ancient Mesopotamian lore, Tiamat is the primordial mother deity who birthed the gods alongside Apsu. Though she tolerated the rebellion of her divine offspring, she was ultimately slain, and her body was used to construct the heavens and the earth. Once the planet's ecosystem stabilized, she was cast into the imaginary number space as a redundant entity. Awakened by a Holy Grail, she led her newly created offspring—the Eleven Children of Tiamat—to eradicate humanity and reset the environment. Later, after traveling through parallel worlds, she encounters Chaldea and steps forward once more to protect her Master.

Relationships

Alongside her original consort Apsu, Tiamat birthed the Mesopotamian pantheon. She exercises authority over her designated offspring, the Eleven Children of Tiamat—including entities like the Lahmu, Basmu, and Mushussu—as her loyal kinsmen. Though harboring deep sorrow toward humanity for abandoning her, her instinctual maternal love remains unbroken, leading her to dote heavily on Ritsuka Fujimaru and the Master as her own child. She also comes to view Beast VI (Draco) as another beloved child deserving of care rather than abandonment.

Trivia

Tiamat takes her name from the primordial goddess of salt water in Mesopotamian mythology, holding the Evil of Humanity representing 'Regression.' Because the black mud she generates is part of her physical body, her spirit origin's maximum dimensions are uniquely measured in surface area rather than height. Additionally, since the mud consists of imaginary numbers, her body mass is classified as unmeasurable.
