Overview

Spartacus is a Servant appearing in TYPE-MOON's Fate series, including Fate/Apocrypha and Fate/Grand Order. Based on the historical Thracian gladiator who led a massive slave revolt against Rome, he is primarily summoned under the Berserker class. In the Holy Grail War of Fate/Apocrypha, he serves as the Berserker of "Red." Defined by an unflinching ideology of rebelling against all "oppressors," he tirelessly seeks out tough opposition and maintains a serene smile even while enduring extreme agony in battle.

Appearance

Spartacus is a towering, muscular man standing 221 cm tall and weighing 165 kg. He has short blonde hair, dark eyes, and a body covered in battle scars. Dark gray leather straps and protective armor components tightly bind his massive frame. Regardless of the severity of the combat, he continuously wears a calm, calm smile on his face.

Personality

Driven entirely by a philosophy of championing the weak and rebelling against tyrannical adversaries, Spartacus constantly chooses the path of greatest hardship. Due to Mad Enhancement EX, his thought process is permanently locked into this mindset, making normal mutual understanding practically impossible. He never targets weaker individuals and willingly acts as a shield to protect the vulnerable. He firmly believes that enduring all forms of suffering leads to ultimate triumph, maintaining his characteristic smile through intense pain.

Abilities

Spartacus wields a gladius or spiked club, utilizing superhuman strength to hurl massive foes and project powerful shockwaves. His primary combat asset is his phenomenal durability; the skill Honor of the Battered drastically reduces the Magical Energy required to heal him and provides automatic regeneration over time, while Indomitable Will accords resistance against physical and mental distress. His constantly active Noble Phantasm, Crying Warmonger, converts incoming damage into stored energy—increasing in efficiency as his health drops—which amplifies his stats, mutates his body into a monstrous form at peak capacity, and can detonate in a massive self-destructive burst.

Background

In life, Spartacus escaped a gladiator training school and led an army of slaves and gladiators against Rome. Demonstrating exceptional command skills, he achieved repeated upset victories against superior Roman forces. Though the rebellion was ultimately crushed and he died in battle without a body left behind, his legend endured as a beacon of hope for the oppressed. In Fate/Apocrypha, after being summoned by Deimlet Pentel and coming under Shirou Kotomine's control, his innate drive leads him to charge the enemy base alone, resulting in his capture, re-contracting with the Black faction, and eventual self-destruction.

Relationships

Spartacus naturally opposes figureheads of authority such as Shirou Kotomine and Vlad III, categorizing them as oppressors; nevertheless, Vlad III expressed genuine respect for his warrior spirit. Toward Ritsuka Fujimaru, he maintains a watchful eye for any signs of tyranny while trusting them as a Master. He forms strong bonds with fellow rebel Servants who share his rebellious fervor, such as Jing Ke, Boudica, and Mordred.

Trivia

Despite his unmanageable temperament and refusal to follow orders, Spartacus surprisingly turns completely calm whenever he is soaked in a hot bath. In Fate/Grand Order gameplay, he is widely utilized as an accessible Buster-oriented Servant equipped with self-healing skills and an all-target Noble Phantasm.
