Overview

Circe is a Caster-class Servant in the Fate series who makes her initial appearance in Fate/Grand Order's Salem Pseudo-Singularity under the provisional title Caster of Okeanos. Rooted in Greek mythology, she is a divine sorceress who governed the island of Aeaea as a demigod associated with love and the moon. Famed for her high-level Greek magecraft capable of turning men into animals, she combines the reputation of a dangerous witch of temptation with the jealous, tender, and affection-seeking heart of a devoted maiden.

Appearance

Circe features long pink hair with sidelocks, multicolored rainbow eyes, and pointed ears. Her petite frame is adorned with brown feathered hawk wings attached at her head and back, which double as costume attire and living body parts traversed by her Magic Circuits. She wields a magic staff resembling that of her niece Medea and wears arm jewelry including bracelets and armlets.

Personality

Despite her reputation as a perilous temptress, Circe possesses the demeanor of an easily smitten, deeply jealous young maiden. She has a strong affinity for flawed human men who rely on her, expressing affection by pampering them with her homemade barley porridge, Kykeon. Conversely, she harbors an intense hatred for deceitful men, being abandoned, or being treated as a fragile figure needing protection. A traumatizing heartbreak in her past led her to cut off her prized long hair, and she reacts with intense denial whenever addressed as an old woman or aunt.

Abilities

Circe relies on Greek magecraft passed down from the goddess Hecate, specializing in alchemy, illusion, and polymorphing magic. She utilizes Territory Creation B to build specialized workshops and Item Construction A to craft magical elixirs, including pseudo-immortality drugs. High-Speed Divine Words B allows her to cast high-level spells instantly. Her skills include Poisonous Feast A to poison and debuff enemy defenses, and Advice on Sailing A to cleanse status ailments and generate critical stars. Her Noble Phantasm, Metabo Piglets, summons a Reality Marble banquet where targets are overwhelmed by her pet piglets and forcefully transformed into pigs.

Background

In Greek myth, Circe is the witch of Aeaea born to Helios and Perseis. She was known to entertain visiting seafarers with grand meals before turning them into beasts. When the sea god Glaucus rejected her romantic advances, her jealousy drove her to transform his beloved Scylla into a horrifying monster. Later, when the hero Odysseus arrived on her island and overcame her poisonous charms via divine aid from Hermes, she became enamored with him and provided invaluable navigation advice for his journey home. Upon being summoned by Chaldea, she aids their efforts as a dependable caster.

Relationships

Odysseus is the hero who shattered her charm, winning her lasting affection; her Holy Grail wish is for him to visit her island once more so she can convey her unsaid feelings. She is bound by blood to her brother Aeetes, her sister Pasiphae, her nephew Asterios, and her niece Medea. Her unrequited desire for the sea god Glaucus led her to turn Scylla into a monster. Her magical lineage originates from the goddess Hecate, and she displays protective warmth toward her Master, Fujimaru Ritsuka, constantly feeding them her home cooking.

Trivia

Her initial disguise name, Caster of Okeanos, derives from Oceanus, the ancient Greek divine representation of the outer ocean. Her overwhelming obsession with serving traditional barley porridge leads characters and fans alike to playfully label her the Caster of Kykeon. Though Homeric epics originally praised her magnificent long hair, her lore specifies that she cut her hair short after suffering a devastating heartbreak during her lifetime.
