Overview
A Rider-class Servant featured in Fate/Grand Order as part of the Fate series, originating from the Charlemagne legends as the King of the Tartars. Burdened by intense self-doubt due to a humiliating defeat in life, he displays a cautious and pessimistic demeanor. Beneath his humble exterior, he possesses a strong sense of responsibility and loyalty toward those he deems true allies.
Appearance
He features short black hair accented with white streaks, sharp sanpaku eyes with dark grey irises, and a noticeable slouch. His attire incorporates shoulder armor, gloves, and playing card diamond motifs. For combat, he carries a round shield along with a simple wooden sword resembling a bokken, which later becomes embedded with metal pieces into a spiked bat-like weapon.
Personality
While arrogant and boastful during his lifetime, the shame of his ultimate defeat left him deeply traumatized, transforming him into a self-deprecating and introverted Servant. He suffers from social awkwardness and routinely lowers expectations to guard against failure. Despite his gloomy demeanor, he is naturally thoughtful, highly conscientious, and deeply respects individuals who strive beyond their inherent limitations.
Abilities
Equipped with standard Rider class abilities like Riding and Magic Resistance, his skill set includes Nine Worthies' Armor for enhanced durability and pseudo-Charisma, as well as Neigh of Brigliadoro to boost mobility and command lower-tier Phantasmal Beasts. In critical situations, he can trigger Gap Strike to deliver a devastating final blow at the cost of his life. His primary Noble Phantasm, Serment de Durandal, allows any object he holds—such as his wooden sword—to cut with the precision of Durandal, though fragile items break after use. He also possesses a sealed Noble Phantasm, Reve de Durandal, which temporarily unlocks Durandal's true power.
Background
In life, he relinquished his throne to avenge his father, journeying until he acquired Hector's legendary armor, the steed Brigliadoro, and the sword Durandal. However, his arrogance resulted in a fatal duel against Ruggero. Summoned during the Atlantis Lostbelt chapter, he joined the Neo Argonauts and formed a meaningful bond with the protagonist. When his companions faced absolute destruction from an orbital beam, he stepped forward, wielding Hector's spear alongside his second Noble Phantasm to block the strike at the cost of his life.
Relationships
He forms a deep bond of mutual respect with Fujimaru Ritsuka, considering them a true friend worth dying for. He idolizes the ancient hero Hector with passionate enthusiasm, sharing this admiration with Bradamante. He harbors lasting trauma regarding his former enemy Ruggero, maintains an awkward history with Roland over Durandal, and prefers to keep his distance from the overwhelming charisma of King Charlemagne.
Trivia
The diamond patterns decorating his attire reference Hector's historic association with the Jack of Diamonds in French playing card tradition. His weapon of choice, a wooden sword, references a classic tale from Orlando Innamorato in which he uprooted a tree to wield as a club.
