Overview

Magical Amber is a comedic spin-off character in the TYPE-MOON franchise, representing an exaggerated magical girl persona of Kohaku. Originating from bad ending jokes in Kagetsu Tohya, she has made prominent guest appearances in titles such as Fate/tiger colossum UPPER, Melty Blood, and Carnival Phantasm. Claiming to be the origin of all magical girls and the leader of the Magical Girl Four Heavenly Kings, she operates as a chaotic mastermind stirring up trouble from behind the scenes.

Appearance

She features amber-red short hair, yellow eyes, a blue ribbon, and a maid headdress with hair bows. Her core attire consists of a Japanese-style kimono maid dress with a white frilled apron, complemented by a black hooded cape. In certain depictions, she manifests brown fox ears and a fox tail, riding a bamboo broom that may feature a sunflower ornament, alongside a modified short-skirt kimono outfit.

Personality

On the surface, she plays the role of a traditional magical girl, but underneath, she is a scheming mastermind who takes joy in manipulating events from the shadows. She frequently uses signature grandiose declarations about her deceptive nature while ensuring she always maintains an airtight alibi. Mischievous, calculating, and ruthlessly playful, she operates as an unpredictable trickster capable of commanding mass-produced mechanical armies for world domination.

Abilities

She navigates the air on a bamboo broom and relies on physically aggressive medication tactics alongside sly speech-based therapy. Her combat repertoire includes a powerful force-injection magic technique comparable to Black Keys, unknown Chinese martial arts, and a formidable super special move. Additionally, despite her traditional aesthetic, she possesses high-level engineering skills capable of building a massive army of Mecha Hisui units large enough to attempt world conquest.

Background

First introduced as a gag in the bad endings of Kagetsu Tohya, Magical Amber gained her unique status as a comedy-focused alter-ego of Kohaku under the influence of Tatari. She was later redesigned with specialized attire for her guest role in Fate/tiger colossum UPPER. Across various crossover works such as Carnival Phantasm, she continues to play the part of a shadowy figure guiding events from behind a magical wand facade.

Relationships

She built an extensive army of Mecha Hisui robots modeled after her sister, Hisui. She also holds ties to Magical Caren as a fellow magical girl whom she helped discover. Due to shared design traits such as fox ears and aprons, she shares a prominent meta-rivalry with Caster (Tamamo-no-Mae) from Fate/EXTRA. She is also distinct from, yet closely linked in origin to, Magical Ruby.

Trivia

Her hybrid design combining traditional Japanese clothing with fox features famously overlapped with later characters in the franchise, leading to recurring meta-humor and rivalry jokes in spin-off manga works like Koha-Ace.
