Overview
Perseus is a Rider-class Servant featuring in Fate/Prototype and Fate/Prototype: Fragments of Sky Silver. His True Name is the famed hero of Greek mythology. Though inherently noble and compassionate, he manifests in the narrative as a stray Servant who has obtained physical incarnation following the tragic death of his young Master. Driven by profound grief and resentment toward a cruel world, he embarks on a dark quest to claim the Holy Grail and resurrect his fallen friend, willingly embracing terrible deeds to achieve his desperate goal.
Appearance
Perseus appears as a young man with short brown or purple hair and green or yellow eyes. His visual attributes include a decorative circlet worn on his head, an unworn mask, jewelry, and earrings. His clothing ranges from modern casual attire, such as a white jacket worn over a dark shirt with pants, to traditional elements including sarashi chest wrappings and bandages, sometimes depicted barefoot.
Personality
Initially, Perseus possesses a gentle, highly empathetic, and morally upright demeanor, radiating an almost angelic kindness. However, witnessing the immense agony and tragic demise of his selfless young contractor warps his compassion into consuming grief and bitterness toward society. Understanding that his ruthless actions directly violate his friend's saintly ideals, he nevertheless accepts becoming a murderer and villain, driven by an unyielding resolve to restore the boy's life at any cost.
Abilities
Summoned under the Rider class, Perseus gains full physical incarnation after his Master expends all Command Spells upon death, requiring him to harvest mana from city residents to sustain his existence. He commands an extraordinary arsenal of six Noble Phantasms: the immortal-slaying scythe Harpe, the Winged Sandals for flight, the Mirror Shield, the Mantle of Hades for invisibility, the magical bag Kibisis, and the bridle Bellerophon to command mythical beasts.
Background
During the Holy Grail War events, Perseus was summoned by Isemi Aro, a terminally ill boy subjected to horrific magus experiments. Despite his unbearable torment, Aro harbored no malice and wished for world peace, earning Perseus's deepest admiration. Seven days after the summoning, Aro succumbed to his afflictions, using his remaining Command Spells to incarnate Perseus as his ultimate friend. Devastated by the boy's unrewarded life, Perseus slaughtered the researchers responsible for Aro's suffering and began harvesting human souls across the city to fuel his bid for the Grail.
Relationships
His bond with his former Master, Isemi Aro, forms the core of his character, regarding the boy as his first and truest friend whose death spurs his ruthless descent. In Greek mythology, Andromeda is his wife, while Zeus, Heracles, and Eurystheus are his divine and mortal relatives. He also shares a legendary rivalry with the Gorgon Medusa, whom he slew. In his disguised civilian identity, he crosses paths with Sajyou Ayaka as a fellow student.
Trivia
Type-Moon creator Kinoko Nasu famously described Perseus's archetype as a successful, good-natured counterpart to Matou Shinji. In classical myth, he is celebrated for beheading Medusa and founding the kingdom of Mycenae.
