Lu Bu

Overview

Lu Bu Fengxian is a Berserker-class Servant featured throughout the Fate franchise, including Fate/EXTRA and Fate/Grand Order. Based on the legendary warlord from the Three Kingdoms era, he is celebrated as an unmatched martial artist and infamous for his constant betrayals. While his natural disposition makes him prone to turning on his commanders, his summoning under the Berserker class suppresses his treacherous nature through Mad Enhancement and mental synchronization, rendering him a formidable, cyborg-like living fortress on the battlefield.

Appearance

Standing 225 cm tall and weighing 153 kg, Lu Bu is a massive, highly muscular male character with dark skin, short glowing red hair, and white eyes. Designed around a red-bronze color scheme, he possesses a half-human, half-machine cybernetic body clad in heavy Chinese-style armor fitted with prominent chest plating.

Personality

Lu Bu presents a quiet, mechanical exterior, but beneath lies a proud, arrogant, and ruthless warrior. Completely lacking traditional loyalty, he is driven to betray his allies whenever he experiences discontent or boredom. Nevertheless, he retains his intelligence and personal pride as a martial artist, as well as genuine affection for his family. Conscious of his lack of political acumen, he constantly seeks a competent military strategist to command him, offering respect and protection to any master who manages him effectively.

Abilities

Lu Bu commands skills including Mad Enhancement, Bravery, Nature of a Rebellious Spirit, and Warlord of Chaos. His body houses lightning-attributed magic circuits that grant explosive power, combined with a cybernetic frame capable of surviving severe internal damage or massive energy surges. He can fire destruction beams from his chest armor and execute explosive thrusts with his spear. His Noble Phantasm, God Force, is a transforming weapon crafted by Chen Gong based on the war god Chiyou. It shifts into forms such as a spear, bow, halberd, greatsword, twin whips, gauntlet, and tonfa, executing armor-bypassing slashes, line-piercing thrusts, defensive blocks, broad sweeps, parrying counters, and high-caliber cannon blasts.

Background

Historically feared as an unmatched warrior during the Three Kingdoms era, Lu Bu was originally afflicted by uncontrollable internal lightning magic. His life changed after meeting the strategist Chen Gong, who developed out-of-place artifact weapons that stabilized his energy, allowing Lu Bu to achieve unparalleled military glory before his repeated betrayals led to his end. In the Moon Cell Holy Grail War, Rani=VIII summoned him under the Berserker class, using Atlas Institute mind-synchronization techniques to seal his rebellious nature. He continues to serve as a formidable combatant across various Grail Wars and singular points.

Relationships

Rani=VIII serves as his Master in Fate/EXTRA; because she resembles both his late wife Diaochan and his military advisor Chen Gong, he refrains from turning against her. Chen Gong was the sole strategist Lu Bu truly trusted during his lifetime. He also maintains a strong connection with his horse, Red Hare. He acknowledges masters such as Hakuno Kishinami and Ritsuka Fujimaru as proper strategists. In Fate/EXTELLA, he acts as a general under Tamamo no Mae while secretly scheming rebellion, and he demonstrates a affectionate side toward the homunculus Frankenstein due to her resemblance to his daughter.

Trivia

His Noble Phantasm God Force was established as only the second Anti-Fortress Noble Phantasm introduced in the Fate series, following Excalibur. Lu Bu possesses qualifications for five distinct Servant classes: Berserker, Lancer, Rider, Assassin, and Archer. In titles like Fate/EXTELLA LINK, he receives unique downloadable costumes, including the mecha-inspired Mobile Arms God and the post-apocalyptic ruler outfit Ruler of Chaos.
