Overview
Caenis is a Lancer-class Servant appearing in Fate/Grand Order. Based on the hero from Greek mythology who sailed with the Argonauts, Caenis first serves as an envoy dispatched to various Lostbelts by the Crypter Kirschtaria Wodime. Claiming the status of a Divine Spirit rather than a standard Heroic Spirit, Caenis displays immense confidence and an aggressive, fiery disposition. In certain events, Caenis is also summoned under the Rider class.
Appearance
Caenis has dark skin, a toned physical build, long white hair with side intakes, and striking blue eyes, accompanied by animal-like ears. The attire consists of a high-leg black swimsuit or bikini paired with gloves and protective armor pieces such as shoulder guards. Distinctive markings decorate the body. Upon further Ascension, Caenis dons radiant golden armor and wields a sacred trident.
Personality
Extremely arrogant, rough, and self-centered, Caenis treats everyone with aggressive high-handedness regardless of their status. Possessing immense pride, Caenis openly acknowledges a villainous side yet refuses to go back on vows made to those who win in fair combat. Born from past trauma, Caenis harbors a deep hatred for gods and the ocean. Being addressed or treated as a woman is a massive trigger for rage. Caenis relies on masculine speech, yet respects individuals possessing fierce independence or unyielding willpower.
Abilities
Fighting primarily as an aggressive close-quarters combatant with a spear in the right hand and a shield in the left, Caenis channels water currents and lightning through the weapon. Granted special favor from Poseidon, Caenis possesses a pseudo-Divine Core, elevating personal status to that of a Divine Spirit. The skill Poseidon's Blessing provides absolute defense against physical weaponry and enables traversal across Lostbelts. The Noble Phantasm Lapithai Caeneus allows transformation into a golden-winged bird for a high-speed charge, while Poseidon Maelstrom unleashes massive, crushing sea torrents.
Background
In Greek mythology, Caenis was a maiden violated by Poseidon who subsequently demanded to be turned into an invulnerable man to avoid future victimization, taking the name Caeneus. Becoming a monarch of the Lapiths, the hero eventually incurred the wrath of Zeus due to blasphemous arrogance, ultimately being buried alive by Centaurs. Within the Fate universe, Caenis manifests as a rare Divine Spirit Servant carrying stolen divine authority, entering a contract with Kirschtaria Wodime after being defeated by him in single combat.
Relationships
Caenis shares a deep bond of mutual trust with Master Kirschtaria Wodime, respecting his resolve. The sea god Poseidon is the absolute object of Caenis's fury and hatred. Former Argonaut comrades, including Jason, treat Caenis with respect regarding gender identity. During events in Olympus, Caenis forms a tactical alliance with Ritsuka Fujimaru and develops a unique debt toward Gordolf Musik for saving his life. Caenis also gets along well with Mordred as a fellow unruly spirit.
Trivia
Caenis loves sweets and living birds. During Valentine's Day events in Chaldea, Caenis is categorized under the male Servants list and gifts the Master a handmade croissant. Caenis shares a common historical background with Mandricardo regarding past tyrannical rule, though the two react to their past actions in completely opposite ways.
