Overview
Edward Teach, also known as Blackbeard, is a Rider-class Servant appearing in Fate/Grand Order and related titles. Modeled after the historical Caribbean pirate who defined the classic image of piracy, he leads the Blackbeard Pirates. He plays a major antagonist role in the Third Singularity, Okeanos, acting according to his own desires while presenting a dangerous challenge to the protagonist.
Appearance
Standing 210 cm tall and weighing 114 kg, Edward Teach is an imposing, heavily muscular man with prominent abs and thick eyebrows. He possesses a dense black beard intertwined with lit fuses, and his glowing eyes have been compared to a hellish vision. His visual features include various eye colors such as blue, black, orange, and brown, along with jewelry adornments. In combat, he utilizes equipment such as a hook attached to his right forearm, a cutlass, handguns, powder kegs, and round fuses.
Personality
Teach typically puts on an eccentric, degenerate otaku persona, speaking in a stereotypical manner using unique speech patterns and open enthusiasm for anime culture, doujinshi, and young women. Beneath this comedic facade lies a shrewd, calculating pirate leader. When taking matters seriously, his tone shifts to a authoritative demeanor, revealing a ruthless tactician who strategically acts out the fool to keep enemies off-guard. He also shows a softer side toward children and can act tsundere when receiving genuine respect.
Abilities
Teach relies primarily on firearms, heavy explosives, and close-quarters weapons in combat. He possesses the skill 'Voyager of the Storm', combining leadership with ship-steering mastery, and 'Pirate's Glory', which grants bravery and low-level mental resistance alongside battle continuation. His Noble Phantasm, Queen Anne's Revenge, summons his legendary warship. Classified as an Anti-Army Noble Phantasm, it continuously functions on water and increases in power depending on the combined strength of the crew aboard it.
Background
Emerging right after the Age of Discovery, Edward Teach rose rapidly to dominate the Caribbean Sea with a formidable fleet. Historical accounts recount his violent end against naval forces, fighting fiercely despite suffering numerous bullet and sword wounds before perishing. Upon being summoned as a Servant, he quickly adopted modern otaku culture, actively seeking out subculture goods while occasionally stepping into serious battles across various singularities.
Relationships
The Trojan hero Hector recognized Teach's sharp intellect, evaluating him as a wise strategist disguised as a fool. He holds a bizarre obsession with his fellow pirate Francis Drake, famously attempting to acquire a sketch artbook of her. In his past life, his ultimate nemesis was Robert Maynard, the naval officer responsible for bringing about his demise.
Trivia
His skill 'Gentlemanly Love' provides group healing with a doubled effect on female Servants as well as most genderless Servants. He has received specialized event costumes over time, including his 'Midsummer Gentleman' outfit.
