Jack The Ripper
Jack the Ripper is a Servant character featured in Fate/Apocrypha and Fate/Grand Order, initially introduced as the Assassin of Black. While bearing the name of the notorious historical serial killer, this manifestation is actually a composite spirit formed from the accumulated grudges of countless aborted children in 19th-century London. Lacking any personal identity or memories of past lives, she wanders with an intense, instinctual craving for maternal affection and a desire to return to the safety of the womb.
Overview
Jack the Ripper is a Servant character featured in Fate/Apocrypha and Fate/Grand Order, initially introduced as the Assassin of Black. While bearing the name of the notorious historical serial killer, this manifestation is actually a composite spirit formed from the accumulated grudges of countless aborted children in 19th-century London. Lacking any personal identity or memories of past lives, she wanders with an intense, instinctual craving for maternal affection and a desire to return to the safety of the womb.
Appearance
She has short white hair with bangs hanging between her blue eyes. Her distinctive outfit consists of an exceptionally short sleeveless jacket paired with low-rise string panties. She wears various accessories including bandages, a arm belt, gloves (including a single-glove configuration), and dark thigh-high stockings. While initially listed as 150 cm tall and weighing 45 kg in early material books, her physical parameters were later designated as 134 cm in height and 33 kg in weight.
Personality
Referring to herself with plural pronouns, she displays the outward innocence and childlike demeanor of a young girl. Due to her origins, she lacks common human ethics and morality, carrying out violence not out of malice or pleasure, but as a basic survival drive and impulse to return to the womb. She harbors a desperate longing for love, addressing her Master as 'mother' regardless of their actual gender. Her disposition is easily shaped by the personality and morality of the Master she serves.
Abilities
She fights using multiple knives, scalpels, and meat cleavers. Her combat repertoire includes the skill 'Murderer on the Mist-Covered Mist' which grants effortless surprise attacks at night, 'Information Erasure' to purge memory and records of her identity after battle, 'Mental Pollution', and 'Surgery' to patch up wounds using bloody blades. She can also possess children with her spirits to control them. Her Noble Phantasms are 'Maria the Ripper', a curse-based dismemberment attack whose lethal power multiplies when conditions involving nighttime, female targets, and mist are met, and 'The Mist', a bounded field that recreates toxic acid smog to disorient enemies and inflict damage.
Background
Formed from the pooled resentments of abandoned fetuses in the Whitechapel district, she wandered the streets of London targeting women in a desperate attempt to find a mother, unintentionally spawning the legend of Jack the Ripper. Her rampage ended when Mages from the Clock Tower recognized the supernatural nature of the killings and eliminated her in secret. Because the true identity of Jack the Ripper remains an unconfirmed mystery in human history, her physical form varies depending on the era, class, and catalyst used during summoning.
Relationships
In Fate/Apocrypha, she manifested to save Rikudou Reika from being killed by Sagara Hyouma, killing Hyouma and making Reika her Master, whom she loves deeply as a mother. She clashes with figures like Saber of Red (Mordred), Ruler (Jeanne d'Arc), Archer of Red (Atalanta), and Sieg. Within Chaldea in Fate/Grand Order, she forms close friendships with fellow young Servants such as Nursery Rhyme, Jeanne d'Arc Alter Santa Lily, and Paul Bunyan.
Trivia
Although designated with the True Name Jack the Ripper, her entity is merely one potential manifestation of the elusive legend; different Servants bearing the same name can be summoned under alternative classes and conditions. Her official character design was created by Konoe Ototsugu.
