Barghest

Overview

Barghest, who initially bears the title of Fairy Knight Gawain, is a Saber-class Servant introduced in Fate/Grand Order. As a member of the Fairy Knights of the Round Table serving Queen Morgan in the British Lostbelt, she inherited the Spirit Origin name of the legendary Knight of the Round Table Gawain from Pan-Human History. Belonging to the physically formidable Fang Clan, she takes on a human-like Spirit Origin form while reigning as one of the most feared warriors across the fairy realm.

Appearance

Barghest stands at an imposing 190 cm and weighs 120 kg, featuring an unusually tall, muscular female frame with an exceptionally large bust and thick thighs. She has long blonde hair and heterochromia, with a blue left eye and a red right eye. Horns grow from her forehead to limit her Spirit Origin growth, complemented by horn-shaped shoulder armor. Her outfit consists of silver and blue armor, a tight dress, black tights, gauntlets, and heavy chains wrapped around her right arm alongside the heavy sword Galatine, shifting to a red and black color scheme in later ascensions.

Personality

Barghest is a dignified and deeply loyal knight who commands respect through her upright demeanor. Having received a thorough aristocratic education, she has a calm, analytical mind and appreciates humor, though she rarely makes jokes herself due to a lack of witty conversational skills. She approaches military planning cautiously, evaluating situations from multiple perspectives. However, she firmly upholds the law of the jungle, regarding the subjugation of the weak by the strong as a natural rule, which makes her a cold and merciless warrior on the battlefield.

Abilities

In battle, Barghest combines brutal swordsmanship using Galatine with shoulder tackles, chain restraints, and invocations of the demon hound Black Dog. Her capabilities are backed by skills like Numeral of the Saint, which boosts her parameters under morning sunlight, Foul Weather, which creates a protective fairy domain, and Wild Rule, which restores her health and strips enemy buffs. Through her Noble Phantasm, Black Dog Galatine, she tears off her growth-suppressing horn, causing her body to undergo an atavistic transformation into a massive, black-flamed beast that crushes enemy formations.

Background

Originating from the Fang Clan in the British Lostbelt, Barghest ruled regions like Manchester and Oxford before receiving the Gawain title from Queen Morgan. In Pan-Human History, the Barghest is a black dog fairy from Northern England known for foretelling death in towns or preying upon travelers in the highlands. She carries a tragic urge that forces her to devour those she loves when romantic feelings peak, a curse that led to the tragic death of her past lover, Adonis. After being summoned to Chaldea, she pledges her blade to the Master.

Relationships

Barghest is fiercely devoted to her sovereign, Queen Morgan. Among her fellow Fairy Knights, she harbors an explicit dislike for Fairy Knight Lancelot (Melusine), while maintaining a working relationship with Fairy Knight Tristan. She shares a friendly connection with Artoria Caster, who affectionately calls her Bageko. She respects the heritage of the original Gawain whose name she bears, and offers unwavering loyalty as a protective knight to her Master, Ritsuka Fujimaru.

Trivia

Barghest was designed by illustrator Melon22, who fashioned her as an extraordinarily tall and muscular female knight. Her folklore elements, such as fiery visual effects and chain equipment, are directly integrated into her combat animations. Interestingly, despite possessing abilities that peak under direct morning sunlight, she commands a skill named Foul Weather. Beyond her terrifying combat reputation, she is also a surprisingly skilled cook who enjoys preparing food.
