Overview

Mata Hari is a 1-star Servant of the Assassin class in Fate/Grand Order. Her true identity is Margaretha Geertruida Zelle, an actual historical dancer and spy active during World War I. Famous for captivating high-ranking military officers with her exotic dancing and seductive charm, she bears the title "The Girl Who Has Sunny Eyes." Beneath her alluring outward persona lies a perceptive and deeply compassionate woman who supports her Master with profound affection.

Appearance

She possesses long hair, striking eyes, and a noticeably voluptuous, well-toned physique. Her signature outfit is an exotic dancer's costume featuring a bare midriff, composed of a bustier top and a waist drape complemented by sheer pink and purple veils. She is adorned with golden bracelets, hoop earrings, jewelry, and hair decorations including hair flowers. She wears sandals on her feet and utilizes ribbon accessories and metallic bracelets during combat.

Personality

Mata Hari is remarkably cheerful, warm, and motherly. While comfortable displaying her seductive charm, her inner core is grounded, resilient, and highly observant. Disliking those who abuse power due to her tragic past, she deeply respects noble-hearted people and her Master. She naturally exhibits strong maternal instincts, delighting in spoiling her Master. Deep down, she longs for uncorrupted, genuine love and a quiet family life free of exploitation. She also takes pleasure in subtly supporting the romantic endeavors of those around her.

Abilities

As a modern Heroic Spirit without martial legends, her physical attributes are uniformly E-rank. Unusually for an Assassin, she lacks the standard Presence Concealment skill. Instead, she relies on her top-tier Espionage skill, which completely erases any perception of hostility from her presence, alongside Pheromone to dismantle enemy vigilance and induce charm and defense debuffs, and Double Cross to seal skills. Her Noble Phantasm, Mata Hari (The Girl Who Has Sunny Eyes), is an Anti-Army dance that hypnotizes and paralyzes enemy thought processes, turning targets into puppets until sunrise or manipulating their perceptions and mental state. In combat, she combines dance-based strikes with ribbon attacks, throwing ignited wine bottles, and projecting energy.

Background

Born in the Netherlands, her early life collapsed when her father defaulted and abandoned the family, leading to her mother's death when she was fourteen. Her subsequent marriage dissolved due to her husband's domestic abuse and alcoholism. Reinventing herself in Paris at age 27 as an East Asian princess, her exotic dances made her a celebrated figure in European high society. Recruited into espionage during World War I, she was arrested by French authorities in 1917 under double-agent accusations and executed by firing squad. As a Servant summoned to Chaldea, she plays significant roles in intelligence operations during events such as the Salem and Ooku storylines.

Relationships

She holds deep affection for her Master, Ritsuka Fujimaru, who treats her as a genuine human being rather than a tool, often coddling and flirtatiously teasing them. Conversely, she harbors intense hatred for her real-life ex-husband, Rudolf John MacLeod, owing to his brutal treatment. She is close friends with Boudica, sharing strong maternal traits and tragic pasts, and maintains cordial relations with Servants like Charlotte Corday and Kiyohime. She firmly bans Edward Teach from her establishment during tavern events, while maintaining a watchful eye over potentially dangerous manipulators such as Kiara Sessyoin and Kama.

Trivia

For a long time, Mata Hari served as the representative face of the Friend Point Summon banner in Fate/Grand Order. In the Gudaguda Honnoji event, she appeared as a boss in the Hell of Lust, infamous among players for inflicting severe charm status effects and rapid Noble Phantasm usage. Historically born in 1876, she is among the most modern historical figures available in the game. Her unique Bond Craft Essence provides a party-wide boost to NP gain rate.
