Overview
Chiemon is a central character and Master of the Lancer faction in Fate/Samurai Remnant, participating in the Waxing Moon Ritual. Having survived the devastating Shimabara Rebellion fifteen years prior to the events in Edo, he arrives in the capital completely destitute and empty-handed. Driven by an all-consuming hatred for the world that destroyed his life, he forms a pact with a Servant bearing the form of the corrupted holy maiden to burn everything to the ground.
Appearance
Chiemon presents a ghastly, wraith-like appearance with pale skin and hollow eyes completely devoid of life. His head and face are heavily wrapped in multiple layers of cloth and bandages. On the battlefield, he carries a decayed spear bound with a tattered, scorched banner from his past.
Personality
Traumatized by watching his parents sacrifice themselves to save him during his youth, Chiemon suffers from intense survivor's guilt. Believing he is fundamentally worthless and belongs in hell, he bitterly rejects any warmth, protection, or compassion directed toward him. Though he exhibits a rough demeanor and utter disregard for life, he possesses a surprisingly calculating mind and high situational awareness, acting with pragmatic composure rather than unbridled madness.
Abilities
Possessing an irregular structure of magic circuits, Chiemon commands hellish flames, though his overall skill is unrefined, causing mental corruption in his Servant during her summoning. Despite his crude capabilities, he can channel his Servant's fire Noble Phantasm through the Command Seal path. He wields a weathered spear wrapped in a burnt flag. In Fate/Grand Order, he manifests the power to control undead spirits to seize spiritual sites and invokes the Noble Phantasm Undying Chiemon, using Lancer's flames to resurrect himself.
Background
During his childhood, Chiemon survived the horrors of the Shimabara Rebellion after his parents gave their lives to shield him. Following the catastrophe, he learned basic magecraft from Mori Souiken while remaining in hiding. Fifteen years later, he traveled to Edo to participate in the Waxing Moon Ritual. Operating from a hideout in Koishikawa, he approached Yui Shousetsu to form a secret alliance, manipulating events from the shadows to pursue his vengeance.
Relationships
Chiemon maintains a cold, distant attitude toward his Servant, Lancer, despite being aware of her protective compassion toward him. He establishes a superficial alliance with Yui Shousetsu through her connection to Mori Souiken, though he places no genuine trust in her. Regarding Miyamoto Iori, Chiemon quickly perceives that the swordsman is unfit for a peaceful era, often insulting him. While stationed in Koishikawa, he also accepted food and small acts of kindness from the Stray Caster.
Trivia
Chiemon's name and background are believed to be inspired by Yamada Emosaku, historically remembered as the sole survivor of the rebel force at Hara Castle during the Shimabara Rebellion. However, because historical records suggest Yamada acted as an informant for the Tokugawa shogunate, Chiemon's depiction as an uncompromising avenger represents a major departure from historical fact.
