Overview

Dumuzid is a non-playable character originating from Mesopotamian mythology in Fate/Grand Order. Identified as a god of shepherds and a former king of Uruk associated with death and rebirth, he frequently manifests as a loosely drawn golden ram. Despite not being a formally contracted Servant with Chaldea, he regularly intrudes upon various seasonal events and story chapters, offering cryptic assistance, managing event shops, or inadvertently dragging others into unusual situations.

Appearance

In his default state, Dumuzid appears as a loosely stylized sheep with fluffy golden wool. His true form is a handsome young man with blonde hair, blue eyes, and hollow-looking eyes. In human form, he drapes thick, fluffy wool over his shoulders, which still features the face of a sheep on the back. He can readily revert from his human shape back into his golden ram form when fleeing.

Personality

Dumuzid speaks in a calm, detached, and self-contained manner, often interjecting fluent English phrases into his dialogue. He possesses a shrewd, opportunistic streak, frequently prioritizing his own safety and reputation while remaining strangely blunt about his self-serving motives. Viewing life through a distant, godlike perspective, he accepts past misfortunes as natural consequences. Despite his volatile history with Ishtar, he harbors no genuine hatred toward her and retains respect for Ereshkigal.

Abilities

As a shepherd deity, Dumuzid possesses divine authority and the inherent ability to shape-shift into a golden ram. Using authority borrowed from the sun god Utu, he can also transform into a snake or a gazelle. He has the capacity to bestow portions of his divine authority and equipment onto others, as demonstrated when he empowered Altera. Additionally, he can navigate between the underworld and the surface world by alternating his presence with his sister.

Background

In mythic history, Dumuzid ruled Uruk and married the goddess Ishtar. When Ishtar descended to the underworld, Dumuzid held a celebratory feast rather than mourning, prompting the furious goddess to send his soul to the underworld in her place upon her return. In Fate/Grand Order, he appears during a crisis in Chaldea caused by a mysterious fever, coercing Altera into becoming a Santa Claus figure to resolve the incident. He later reappears in events such as Battle in New York as a lottery shopkeeper and assists Chaldea alongside Ninkigal during the seventh Lostbelt.

Relationships

Dumuzid was married to Ishtar for her wealth and prestige, though she eventually offered him up to the underworld. He serves his sister-in-law Ereshkigal as an underworld ruler and holds her in high regard despite her strict oversight. His sister Geshtinanna agreed to split his underworld sentence by taking his place for half of every year. He borrowed transformation powers from Utu and considers the fever god Nergal a friend. In Chaldea, he recruited Altera to become Altera the San(ta) and holds high esteem for the Master, Fujimaru Ritsuka.

Trivia

Dumuzid insists that his name should be pronounced with the emphasis on "Doom Z" rather than "Doom G." Official merchandise based on his golden sheep appearance, including a plush toy, was produced and sold through the official developer store. His role as a prize shopkeeper gained popularity due to his surreal delivery of randomized advice and commentary.
