Overview
Xu Fu is an Alter Ego-class Servant introduced in Fate/Grand Order. Based on the historical Qin dynasty Taoist fangshi who was dispatched to Japan by Qin Shi Huang to locate the elixir of immortality, she is depicted as female within the Fate universe. Initially appearing as the mastermind behind the Servant Summer Camp! event, she was later made playable. She harbors an intense, fanatic devotion to Yu Mei-ren, having historically dedicated her life to researching a method to "kill" immortality in order to free her revered idol from eternal suffering.
Appearance
Xu Fu is a young woman with a youthful face, standing 163 cm tall and weighing 41 kg. She has straight black hair styled over one eye, decorated with a hair stick and hair ornament, alongside brown eyes with a mole under her eye. She wears Chinese-style clothing featuring a white long-sleeved robe and a hat. She constantly carries a doll modeled after Yu Mei-ren, which changes form from a held plushie, to a backpack plushie, to a kisslock pouch necklace depending on her stage of ascension.
Personality
Xu Fu uses the personal pronoun "watashi." Although she comes across as gloomy and timid, she possesses surprisingly strong social skills and recovers quickly from setbacks. Aside from Qin Shi Huang, whom she avoids out of guilt, she speaks bluntly to everyone. She takes immense pride in her skills as a sorcerer despite her self-deprecating demeanor, though she shies away from direct physical combat. Toward Fujimaru Ritsuka, she acts like a frank, mischievous friend. In stark contrast, her extreme devotion to Yu Mei-ren bordered on fanaticism, driving her to extreme measures. She also holds deep affection for Mash Kyrielight, having treated her with genuine care even while deceiving her.
Abilities
Although an amateur in hand-to-hand combat with low physical fighting capability, Xu Fu is a highly skilled Taoist sorcerer who excels at support through barrier creation, exorcism, fortune-telling, and harnessing ambient curses to cloak her spells. In battle, she manipulates her Yu Mei-ren doll for attacks, hurls blue-flamed talismans, summons yellow whirlwinds, swings or throws a hammer, rides a giant kokeshi doll with a pickaxe, and launches Yu Mei-ren-shaped bombs. Her skills include Item Creation, Village Creation, Taoism (Outer), Xu Fu Legend, High-Servant (borrowing powers from Tenmokuiromi-no-kami and Shennong), Praise of Five Grains, and the demerit skill Weakness (Yu Mei-ren). Her Noble Phantasms are "This is the Elixir of Immortality <False>", which inflicts damage when given to enemies or heals when consumed, and the secret unfinished Noble Phantasm "Immortality Killer <Unreached>", which inflicts mortality by collecting concepts of death.
Background
In life, Xu Fu was a Taoist fangshi dispatched by Qin Shi Huang alongside three thousand youths and skilled artisans to search for the elixir of immortality. Though historical records registered her as male due to biased court bureaucrats, she is female. Upon meeting the immortal Yu Mei-ren, Xu Fu dedicated herself to freeing her from the misery of eternal life. Traveling to Japan, she founded a hidden mountain settlement called "Horai," claiming to research immortality while secretly working to forge a mystic code capable of killing immortals by collecting over one hundred thousand instances of death using dolls. After the accumulated curses went out of control, the village was sealed away. Summoned later as a Servant, her scheme was halted, but she subsequently assisted Chaldea in the Traum singularity before formally contracting with the Master.
Relationships
Xu Fu harbors total devotion toward Yu Mei-ren, whom she adores as "Gu-sama." She feels intense jealousy toward Yu Mei-ren's lover, Xiang Yu, yet sincerely appreciates him for giving Yu Mei-ren a reason to live. She views Lanling Wang as a rival in admiration and once mind-controlled him into a minion named "Dark Lan." Regarding her former ruler Qin Shi Huang, she feels guilty for diverting his research budget toward her own goal and running away, though he holds no grudge. She maintains a casual, platonic friendship with the Master, Fujimaru Ritsuka, and remains extremely fond of Mash Kyrielight despite having deceived her during their initial meeting.
Trivia
In Fate/Grand Order, Xu Fu stands out as a rare 3-star Extra-class Servant, making her accessible through Friend Point Summons while serving as a potent Arts support unit. A command code modeled after her iconic Yu Mei-ren doll was introduced during the 2024 summer event. Aside from her main roles, she frequently makes memorable appearance in event stories and epilogues, such as assisting under the identity of "Space Xu Fu" in Battle in New York and contributing to the epilogue of Paper Moon.
