Overview
Hippolyta is a Servant who appears in the Fate series, notably debuting in Fate/strange Fake. Summoned into the Snowfield Holy Grail War under the True Rider class, she is the legendary queen and warlord of the Amazons in Greek mythology. Born to the war god Ares and Otrera, a priestess of Artemis, she is a demigod who possesses both majestic regal authority and fierce martial skill. Renowned for her steadfast sense of justice and honorable warrior's spirit, she represents a classic, high-principled Heroic Spirit.
Appearance
Appearing as a young woman in her mid-to-late teens, Hippolyta has red hair styled with buns and princess braids, accompanied by golden eyes. She wears a Greco-Roman style dress featuring side-bust exposure, paired with a waist sash, fingerless gloves, black thigh-high garter stockings, and sandals. She also wraps her divine sash around her upper arm.
Personality
Hippolyta is a high-minded, passionate, and deeply honorable warrior who exhibits warmth toward children and the weak. She holds a strong aversion to arrogance and underhanded cruelty. While she inherits the hot-blooded and impetuous nature of the Amazons—sometimes leading her to act rashly out of indignation—she remains remarkably rational and open-minded compared to her kin, willing to listen earnestly and seek understanding in any situation.
Abilities
Hippolyta possesses high Magic Resistance and Riding capabilities, allowing her to expertly mount her divine steed Kalion. In combat, she excels in archery, magical spear throwing, close-quarters striking, and wielding a heavy battle axe. Her Noble Phantasm, 'Goddess of War,' drastically boosts her Divine Spirit aptitude and physical attributes. Through her ultimate mastery of horsemanship and axe technique, she can unleash 'Hybris Anatrepon Erinyes,' a devastating strike that cleaves through opposing forces.
Background
In life, Hippolyta was the elder sister of Penthesilea and Antiope, leading her tribe through numerous conquests and legendary exploits. When Heracles arrived seeking her divine sash during his Twelve Labors, a conspiracy set by the goddess Hera incited a misunderstanding, leading to Hippolyta being killed by Heracles. In the Snowfield Grail War, she was initially summoned by Doris Lusendra before her Master connection transferred to the collective students of the El-Melloi Classroom.
Relationships
Unlike her sister Penthesilea, Hippolyta harbors no hatred toward Heracles for her past death, viewing him with hero-worship and respect. Her sister Penthesilea holds high regard for her, though she sometimes worries about Hippolyta's overly honest nature. While she maintains a calm perspective, she feels a desire to lecture figures like Achilles and Theseus regarding her sisters. Her mount, Kalion, was originally a wild beast leader she befriended after battle.
Trivia
In Fate/Grand Order, Hippolyta was introduced as a 4-star limited event Servant. Narratively, she retains faint memories from multiple parallel Grail Wars, a phenomenon she speculates is tied to her divine lineage and Divinity skill.
